Planning a Disney World trip means juggling a lot of factors, but timing can make or break your experience.
While Disney World is generally busy, certain dates attract even larger crowds, resulting in longer wait times and increased chaos that can turn a magical vacation into a stressful one. Whether it’s major events, park closures, or holiday rushes, certain days in 2026 are going to be tougher than others. To help you plan smarter and avoid the biggest headaches, we’ve rounded up eight specific dates when you might want to reconsider your travel plans or at least brace yourself for what’s coming.
DinoLand U.S.A. Closes for Good (February 2nd, 2026)
February 2nd marks the official closure of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and while this isn’t a special event that brings in outside crowds, it does change the park’s dynamics in a big way. When an entire land disappears, all those guests who would normally spread out across DinoLand’s attractions and pathways get funneled into the remaining areas of the park.
That redistribution means longer waits for popular rides like Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and Flight of Passage. Plus, as construction begins on whatever’s coming next, you’ll likely encounter walls, rerouted walkways, and fewer quiet spots to escape the crowds. February already has unpredictable crowd patterns due to various events and holidays, so losing a whole section of the park only intensifies the congestion. The transformation will be worth it eventually, but the transition period could make for a more cramped experience overall.
Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend (February 26th – March 2nd, 2026)
This runDisney event is a favorite among families and friend groups who love the themed race experience, and it brings in some serious crowds. The races happen early in the morning, which means road closures around EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, and the surrounding resort areas. If you’re not running, getting around can be tricky.
Your best bet is to rely on Disney’s bus system or give yourself way more driving time than you think you’ll need. The sparkly costumes are fun to see, but the traffic jams are less charming.
Springtime Surprise Weekend (April 16th – 19th, 2026)
Springtime Surprise is still relatively new to the runDisney calendar, but it’s already drawing big crowds. Each year features different themed races, which keeps things fresh and brings in a steady stream of participants. That also means fresh road closures and increased congestion around the resorts.
If you’re visiting during this weekend and you’re not part of the race festivities, expect some delays getting to and from the parks.
Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon (October 22nd – October 25th, 2026)
This race weekend lands right in the middle of EPCOT’s International Food and Wine Festival, which is already one of the busiest times at the park. You’re dealing with a double dose of crowds here: runners causing road closures and food lovers heading to EPCOT for the festival. The combination almost guarantees traffic jams near EPCOT’s parking entrance.
If you’re visiting during Wine & Dine weekend, prepare for some serious delays if you’re driving.

Cheerleading Worlds & Junior World Cheerleading Championships (April 22nd – April 27th, 2026)
Late April brings a completely different type of crowd to Disney World. Thousands of competitive cheerleaders and their families arrive for these major championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The impact isn’t limited to the sports complex, though. Because many teams stay at the All-Star Resorts, the entire area around Animal Kingdom can feel noticeably more crowded.
Resort buses get packed, hotel parking lots fill up fast, and the main roads around the sports complex can turn into a gridlock situation. If you’re planning a late April trip, just know that you’ll be sharing the roads with a lot of extra vehicles.
The Summit Championship (April 30th – May 3rd, 2026)
Just when you thought April was done throwing crowds at you, the Summit Championship arrives. This is another major cheerleading competition at ESPN Wide World of Sports, and it brings the same kind of traffic challenges as Cheerleading Worlds. Buses and family cars will be constantly moving between competition venues and hotels, especially around the Value Resorts.
If you’re driving this weekend, factor in extra time and maybe some extra patience.
The D2 Summit (May 8th – May 10th, 2026)
The cheerleading season wraps up with the D2 Summit, which happens just days after the Summit Championship. While this event is slightly smaller, it still draws plenty of teams and supporters. Parking at ESPN Wide World of Sports will be full, and the All-Star Resorts will still have that competition weekend energy.
If you’re planning a quick Disney getaway during this time, don’t count on your car getting you to the parks quickly.
Holiday Weekends
Finally, don’t forget about the big holidays. Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s are all peak times at Disney World. The parks are packed, and the roads leading to them are often jammed with visitors trying to check into their hotels or make it to rope drop. Even if you’re a local just stopping by for the day, holiday traffic can eat up a huge chunk of your time. If sitting in a long line of brake lights sounds miserable, you might want to plan your trip around these weekends.
Disney World is busy year-round, but these eight dates in 2026 are when visiting could become especially challenging. Knowing what to expect can help you decide whether to reschedule your trip or at least prepare yourself mentally for what’s ahead. Our best advice is simple: if these dates are your only option, go in with realistic expectations, plan your park strategy carefully, and maybe build in some resort relaxation time to balance out the chaos.
