A major publication has bestowed a big honor on Disney, as TIME has named the company one of America’s “Most Iconic Companies.”
The list is “a comprehensive analysis that seeks to identify entities that have not only achieved commercial success but have also become deeply ingrained in the American identity, shaping perceptions, habits, and aspirations,” and Disney came in 11th.
The company fell just behind the Ford Motor Company, Apple, the Coca-Cola Company, Walmart, Amazon, McDonald’s, General Motors (GM), Google, and Nike, and ahead of PepsiCo, Oracle, Hershey, OpenAI, Cisco, Dairy Queen, Costco, Chick-fil-A, and Etsy.
In a press release discussing Disney’s spot on the list — which was compiled in honor of America’s 250th anniversary — CEO Bob Iger spoke about the honor. He said, “For over a century, Disney has been woven into the American story, with beloved characters and timeless tales that have brought magic, joy, and wonder to generations.”
Iger continued speaking on the importance of the company’s legacy, writing, “Walt Disney’s enduring vision for this great company remains our inspiration, shaping the creativity, curiosity, and innovation that fuel our storytelling today. The dreams Walt envisioned for Disney continue to grow, taking us into the future and pushing the boundaries of what is possible for generations to come.”
In addition to Disney’s own placement as an overall company, the Disney-owned ESPN was ranked 28th, just behind Harley-Davidson and JetBlue and ahead of Riot Games and Kraft Heinz.
Disney is planning their own celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Disney Celebrates America, which features, “special programming, storytelling, and experiences across its iconic brands and businesses to celebrate the nation’s remarkable journey, spotlight the people and places that make this country so unique, and inspire patriotism in every generation” and is scheduled to culminate on 4th of July weekend.
Disney has been named America’s 11th most iconic company by TIME in honor of the country’s 25th’s anniversary. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s business.
