I’m about to grab my paintbrush and head to Magic Kingdom because the castle is getting repainted and I want to help. Okay, maybe Disney doesn’t want me climbing in a crane and getting the work done, but the pink is switching back to gray this year, and work is about to start.
When we visited Cinderella Castle on January 5th, work hadn’t started yet, but Disney just took a major step towards the start of the project.
On the Disney World app and website, there’s officially a warning that Cinderella Castle is going under a “magical transformation.” Eek! Once Disney starts to put warnings up, that’s how we know they’re getting ready to work.
To start, Disney will need to drain the moat around the castle so they can bring the equipment close to the castle. When the painting begins, the cranes will be lowered and out of sight by noon each day. Yay for a repainted castle and great family pictures in front of the castle. This is expected to start around January 28th.
The three shows that take place at the castle, Let the Magic Begin, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, and Happily Ever After, will continue to run but with minor adjustments. The project is expected to be finished later this year.
Don’t forget to check out some of the other construction projects happening around Magic Kingdom, like the refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad…
…and the new scene, blasters, ride behicles, and targets on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin.
Piston Peak is also being worked on, where Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America used to be. I’m so excited to see Lightning McQueen and all of his friends find their way in Magic Kingdom.

Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race.
Of course, we can’t forget about Villains Land going behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Disney hasn’t released too many details yet, but seeing our favorite villains come to life is going to be incredible.
In the meantime, make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for all the updates involving the castle painting and how it will affect your Disney World vacation.

I am so happy the castle is going back to the original color. I used to get goosebumps every time I would first catch sight of the castle as we were heading down Main St. The pink version did nothing for me. Pink is fine for Sleeping Beauty castle, but not Cinderella castle, in my opinion.
