My favorite EPCOT festival is the Festival of the Arts, and I’m not afraid to say it! From artwork at every corner, some of the prettiest food of any festival, and Broadway performances, I really couldn’t ask for more. Despite not asking, Disney is giving us something else that I know is going to be POPULAR!
There are tons of artists who come and sell their Disney artwork during the festival, and some even sign them! Lucky for us, Disney added Tony Baxter as a featured artist.
Tony Baxter is a Disney Legend and Imagineer and will be signing his piece “Steps of St. Paul’s,” which is inspired by his favorite Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins. He’ll also sign some select Disney Fine Art favorites.
He’ll be signing at the World Showcase Bridge Kiosk in EPCOT from January 22nd to 25th from 11 AM to 2 PM and 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Disney also said to “keep your eyes open in our booth…you may spot a little extra Disney art magic, we promise it’s real (and not just a ‘Figment’ of your imagination). Baxter is the one who came up with the name Figment, which was based on a Magnum, P.I. episode.
Even if you haven’t heard of Tony Baxter, you’ve definitely seen his work around Disney. He was a huge part of the design of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Journey Into Imagination with Figment. He designed Thunder Mesa, which is a larger part of Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland, as well as other attractions for the area that weren’t built.
Typically, even if an artist isn’t signing their pieces, you can shop from a large collection of different prints by the artist, so I’m hoping there are more pieces to look at. I specifically love his concept art for different Disney attractions, which would be so cool to purchase!
The EPCOT Festival of the Arts runs from January 16th to February 23rd, and we’ll be there on opening day to bring you ALL the details you need to know before you go yourself. We’ll be trying the food, checking out the souvenirs, seeing some performances, and more, all here at Disney Food Blog.
