We’ve got some sad news coming out of the Pacific Northwest, and theme park goers who grew up going to a certain theme park will have to say goodbye this upcoming season.
Wild Waves Theme & Water Park, Washington’s largest combination theme and water park, has been operating in Washington since 1977 and has been a staple for many Washington families. However, it was just recently announced that the upcoming 2026 season will be its final one.
It’s been reported by the theme park that their 2026 season will unfortunately be their last. The park will open its gates for the season on May 23rd, 2026, and close for the final time on November 1st, 2026. When asked about the decision, Kieran Burke, President and Owner of Premier Parks, said in a statement that it was due to “finances that never fully recovered in the years following the pandemic.”
The theme park and water park employ about 35 full-time staff and around 800 seasonal workers each year. Those who plan to visit the park in 2026 will get its full experience, including summertime water attractions, classic thrill rides, and Fright Fest in October. Burke was also quoted as saying, “In its final year of operation, the park will celebrate the memories, nostalgia, and family fun with themed events and special promotions.”
So, what’s next for the 40 acres of land that the park sits on? Well, according to Jeff Stock, owner of the property and longtime partner of Premier Parks, plans for the site are currently in preliminary stages and have goals to be “beneficial to the city and surrounding areas.” Stock also said that they “recognize the deep history and emotional connection many residents have with the park, and we are committed to ensuring a respectful transition while planning a project that will bring meaningful, lasting benefits to the area.”
On social media, many people have taken to the comments to share their dismay at the announcement, some saying that they hope there’s a way to save the park. Others shared memories they have from the parks growing up, or shared how it was a tradition to visit each year. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on the latest news to let you know if there’s any change, so stay tuned to DFB.
