According to Variety, the Holes TV series will not move forward on Disney+.
The show was going to be based on the book by the same name, written by Louis Sachar, which was also turned into a movie by Disney in 2003. At the beginning of the year, Disney ordered a pilot, but has since decided not to continue.
The Disney+ pilot was gender bent, where a teenage girl goes to a detention camp instead of a teenage boy, which was set to be played by Shay Rudolph. Greg Kinnear, Aidy Bryant, and Noah Cottrell were also to be included in the series as the warden, camp counselor, and kitchen employee.
The book was published in 1998, and the movie starring Shia LaBeouf was a critical and commercial success. LaBeouf starred in the 2003 movie, shortly after starring in Even Stevens, another Disney Channel favorite. The Even Stevens Movie also premiered in 2003.
It’s hard not to be disappointed when a TV series doesn’t even get a chance to start, but there are plenty of other shows coming to Disney+. Right now, the internet is loving The End of an Era, a docuseries about Taylor Swift’s Era Tour…
…along with the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This was another book that was later turned into a movie and is now a TV series on Disney+.
