New Disney World Animal Alert! Meet Harris, a New White Rhino

We love visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom because it’s just so different from Disney World’s other three theme parks. It’s part theme park, part zoo, and full of all kinds of wonderful creatures we love to see and learn more about.

We’re also excited when new animals arrive in Animal Kingdom, especially babies. However, a new adult white rhino just recently became a new citizen of Animal Kingdom, and we would like to introduce you to him.

Meet Harris, Animal Kingdom’s most recent new arrival. Harris is a white rhino who you can now see roaming around Kilimanjaro Safaris in the park.

Harris’ arrival in Animal Kingdom is a big deal because Disney’s conservation efforts help support the future of the white rhino, which is an endangered species. White rhinos face significant threats, mostly due to poaching for their horns, but also because of habitat loss. Harris is in Disney World thanks to the Species Survival Plan, which helps ensure the survival of such endangered animals.

Harris is currently spending time getting to know his new digs, so you might see him exploring the next time you take a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Before being let out onto the safari, Disney made sure he got a chance to get to know the female white rhinos backstage. There, they had a chance to see, smell, and interact with each other. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see some baby white rhinos in Animal Kingdom soon! But now, he’s out on the safari, so you can see him for yourself.
