Are you planning on visiting Disney World soon? Will you be driving to the resort or renting a car from the airport to drive to Disney World?
If so, there are some key things you need to keep in mind. First, make sure you’re aware of Disney World’s driving and parking rules. You’ll also need to make sure that you know where to park at Disney World hotels and resorts (fortunately, there’s plenty of signage to help you find parking). But the one thing you should NEVER do is leave your valuables in your car once you’ve parked, and we’re going to tell you why.
According to People, a valet at a Disney World hotel was recently arrested for cashing fraudulent checks after taking a checkbook from a hotel resort guest’s vehicle. An arrest affidavit filed in Orange County, Florida, states that authorities responded to a burglary at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge on December 3rd. A visitor visiting the resort reported receiving notifications from her bank that someone had written four checks out of her account and that her checkbook was missing from her vehicle.
In the statement, the victim explained that she had valet parked her car. When she received notifications from the banks, she also received screenshots of the checks, which were written out to someone she didn’t know. Officers then used that information to find the suspect and arrest him. According to Disney, the valet did not directly work for the company but for a third-party company that provides valet services to the hotel.
This is why we want to remind you not to leave any valuables in your car. Even in Disney World, your valuables may not be safe from theft. You should keep your checkbooks, debit cards, and credit cards either on you or inside your hotel room safe. Double-check your car before you park or hand it over to a valet to ensure that nothing important is being left inside the vehicle.
