For nearly 60 years, the Haunted Mansion has been one of Disney’s most iconic attractions. However, as the ride’s popularity has grown, many fans have begun to wish that some new modern rules could be implemented on the legendary ride.

“And now, a carriage approaches to take you into the boundless realm of the supernatural.Take your loved ones by the hand, please, and kindly watch your step. “
In the 30+ years I’ve been riding Disney World’s Haunted Mansion, I — like millions of other guests — have fallen in love with the ride’s ambiance and environment, which is a key to its success. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the majority of these “rules” all revolve around maintaining said ambiance.
No Loud Repeating in the Stretching Room… or Anywhere Else
Look, we’re all big fans of the attraction and the narration of the Ghost Host, which provides the perfect mixture of macabre foreboding and dark comedy that complements the ride’s unique tone. However, please leave the narrating to the Ghost Host. No one, especially first-time riders, wants to hear your “pitch-perfect” rendition of the stretching room spiel or attic narration.
No Lightning for Photos or Video
While taking photos and videos on the slow-moving Haunted Mansion shouldn’t be an issue, please be cognizant of riders around you. Don’t take flash photos or use bright lighting for your videos, as they’ll break the illusion of the ride (they’re called dark rides for a reason) for other guests.
No Scrolling Phones
Beyond flash photos, even just the lights from scrolling through your phone can break the illusion of the attraction for those around you. Trust us, whatever you’re looking at can wait until you’re out of the attraction.
Your Loved One Isn’t Going to be the 1,000th Resident
This one shouldn’t have to be said, but please, don’t bring anyone’s ashes to spread on the attraction. It’s unsanitary, you will get caught, and the ride will end up being shut down for cleaning. Please, find an appropriate way to honor your Disney-fan loved one.
The Haunted Mansion remains one of Disney’s most popular rides, and some fans really wish some new “rules” could be implemented to keep it that way. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney classics.
