According to WFTV, SeaWorld Orlando is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice.
The Justice Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida are investigating United Parks & Resorts, Inc., SeaWorld’s owner, to determine if the company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act after SeaWorld guests alleged that the park was discriminating against guests with disabilities.
SeaWorld has banned the use of rollators, which some guests have reported they need to access the parks. Complainants also claimed that SeaWorld’s alternative mobility aids, which require extra charges, are not appropriate for their individual disabilities.
“The ADA protects every American from disability-based discrimination in places of public accommodation, including theme parks,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.
“No one should ever be denied equal access to public accommodations based on disability,” said U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe for the Middle District of Florida.
