Disney World is currently undergoing major transformations, including the construction of new lands and attractions over the coming years. Disney gave a very subtle hint about some animatronics we can expect to see, including one that wasn’t on my list!
Disney recently spoke about the next generation of Audio-Animatronics coming to Disney Parks. They mentioned new emotions that these animatronics can do, like crying and blushing, which are now in their “storytelling toolkit.” Can you imagine an animatronic crying?

They also said that the new technology they’re working on lets them bring characters from the screens to the parks so much faster and accurately than before. Disney also mentioned that “it’s especially transformative for characters who had traditionally challenging features to create, like Mike Wazowski, Lightning McQueen, or Hades.” HADES!

Mike Wazowski is coming to Monstropolis, the land replacing the Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios. Whether they’re on the new hanging door roller coaster or the show, that’s going to be so fun to see the green monster in all of his glory.

Of course, Lightning McQueen is probably coming to Piston Peak, the Cars-themed land going on the old Tom Sawyer Island. Two attractions are coming to this land, including a family-friendly ride and an off-road racer rally. Likely, the animatronic they’re working on will go on one of these attractions.

But Hades?!? Sounds like he will be going to Villains Land, which is going behind Big Thunder Mountain. Why is this such a big deal? Well, Disney had been pretty tight-lipped about the details of Villains Land. We’ve been given very little detail, but knowing that there could be a Hades animatronic is making the Hercules fan in me want to jump up and scream. Disney Villains is a pretty broad category, so we weren’t sure what villains we were going to see, and while it’s not confirmed, this is where it’s going; it’s a pretty good sign.

All of these named attractions are going to be difficult for Disney to meet or exceed expectations. So far, the imagineers have not met the challenge of the guest to be blown away. I am cautiously objective at the varying best.
