We’ll admit that when we first saw How To Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk in Epic Universe, we were blown away by the level of immersion in that land. It really had us believing that dragons are real (and Toothless is SO real, y’all). But something was missing.
Ahead of Epic Universe’s opening, Universal Orlando teased that we would see flying dragons over the land. However, that never happened. So color us disappointed. Well, dragons have finally been spotted flying over Isle of Berk, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Thanks to @EYNTKinfo, we have seen actual video of a dragon flying over Isle of Berk. The dragon seems to be Hookfang, a Monstrous Nightmare dragon from the How to Train Your Dragon movie. Check it out below. It’s a pretty incredible sight!

These dragons are basically drones made out to look like dragons. Universal Orlando promised they’d be seen often flying over the Isle of Berk, but for some reason, the flying dragons have been MIA since the park’s opening in May. Universal hasn’t really given much of an update since then. Perhaps there was a technical or safety issue that Universal needed to work out. These are pretty massive drones, so we can imagine that flying these babies can’t be easy.
Is it possible that Universal never intended for flying dragons to be an everyday thing in the park? Well, why would they bring them up if they weren’t meant to be seen by all? Maybe they were just a delayed project, giving Universal a chance to work out all the park opening bugs before sending the flying dragons out into the wild.
The good news is that there are plenty of ways to interact with dragons in Isle of Berk, including an incredible meet-and-greet with Toothless himself. But imagine dragons occasionally flying overhead while you’re there? How amazing would that be?
Stay tuned to DFB for more.

I remember when Disney debuted a flying dragon prior to Avatar opening, then it disappeared never to be heard from again. What happened.
