So much is happening at Disney World that it can be tough to keep. Fortunately, our team stays up-to-date on all the latest developments so we can bring you the latest coverage — including updates on two of the resort’s newest rides.
A lot of rides are currently in development at Disney World, such as new attractions in Magic Kingdom’s not-yet-built Villains Land and Piston Peak, and the new Indiana Jones ride coming to Animal Kingdom‘s Tropical Americas-themed land. However, we’re taking a closer look at a couple of rides that are firmly in development at the moment: the new Monsters, Inc. roller coaster coming to Hollywood Studios and the new Encanto ride coming to Animal Kingdom!
Both attractions were revealed at 2024’s D23 fan expo event in Anaheim, California, and, since then, we’ve gotten little trickles of information about each ride. Here’s what we know so far:
Monsters, Inc. Roller Coaster
Disney’s new Monsters, Inc. roller coaster will be its first-ever suspended coaster — a roller coaster where you sit but your feet dangle off the ground as your ride vehicle is attached to an overhead track.
According to Disney, the ride will take place inside the Monsters, Inc. plant and you’ll be able to ride on a door like Mike and Sulley in the iconic Disney and Pixar film!
Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”
3D models indicate that you’ll be whirling through the area that holds all the doors to the human world, encountering sudden twists, turns, and dips. The ride will be located in a new Monsters, Inc. Land in Hollywood Studios that looks like Monstropolis come to life! The area is replacing Muppets Courtyard.
Recently-filed documents released by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District revealed more details about the ride’s show building. Previously released maps gave us an idea that the building will be approximately 365 feet by 330 feet — a total size of around 103,000 square feet.
A new map suggests that the building might be placed over an existing Cast Member parking lot.
There’s still plenty to learn, and we can’t wait to hear new details!
Encanto Ride
Joining the new Indiana Jones ride in Animal Kingdom will be the first-ever Encanto ride!
Located in Pueblo Esperanza (the Tropical Americas-themed land replacing DinoLand U.S.A in Animal Kingdom), the Encanto ride will be inside the Casita — the house where the Madrigal family lives. The ride’s narrative will take place after Antonio has received the gift to talk to animals, and his room has transformed into a rainforest. The ride will take you on a journey through the Casita as you meet other members of the Madrigal family along the way. Disney has not yet specified if this will be a boat ride, trackless ride, or traditional dark ride.
There is still much to be learned about this attraction, but recent aerial photos by @bioreconstruct reveal some MASSIVE work being done!
The scope of the attraction is larger than initially expected. The structure in the middle could be where the exterior of the Casita will go.
Construction is ongoing, meaning we could get some pretty big updates in the coming months!
The new ride will be located where Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama! was once located, along with some backstage areas.
We can’t wait to experience these new attractions! In the meantime, stay tuned right here at DFB for all the latest Disney World updates!
