If you’re heading to EPCOT this week, you’ll notice a big change on one of the park’s most popular attractions.
Disney has confirmed that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is closed starting today, November 10th, through November 13th for a quick refurbishment, and yes, that means it’s also temporarily gone from the Lightning Lane lineup. The ride will reopen on November 14th with a major update to its experience. Here’s what’s going on, why the closure is happening now, and how it’ll impact your EPCOT plans over the next few days.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Goes 2D
If you’ve ever taken a spin through Gusteau’s kitchen in the France Pavilion, you know Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is one of the busiest attractions in EPCOT and one of the few that uses 3D glasses. But that’s about to change.
Disney has officially confirmed that when the attraction reopens on November 14th, it’ll do so without those 3D glasses. The ride is being converted to a 2D projection-based experience, similar to what’s currently being done at the original Disneyland Paris version of the ride.
This means the entire attraction will be getting a bit of a refresh. Guests won’t need to grab glasses before boarding, and Disney will likely use upgraded projection and lighting technology to keep the visuals just as immersive. The 3D-to-2D shift is expected to streamline the experience and could even speed up the loading process a little since guests will no longer need to grab and return their glasses.
What’s Changing During the Refurbishment
The three-day closure, running from November 10th through November 13th, will be short but meaningful. According to Disney, the current work is focused mainly on switching over to the new 2D system. However, this isn’t the only update planned for the ride. Over the coming months, Disney has said that new props and lighting will be added to the queue and attraction, enhancing the overall storytelling. So while you might not see a completely transformed attraction when it reopens next week, expect to notice gradual improvements in the near future.
Disney hasn’t specified exactly what those updates will look like, but if we take cues from the upcoming refresh at Disneyland Paris, there’s reason to get excited. Over there, the Parisian version is getting technical upgrades, scenic enhancements, and an expanded queue featuring a brand-new scene set in a Parisian artist’s studio, complete with paint-splattered walls, colorful canvases, and maybe even a few hidden rats sneaking a snack from a fruit basket.
Disney hasn’t confirmed whether that specific scene will make its way to EPCOT, but it does sound like the Imagineers are taking inspiration from those improvements.
What This Means for Lightning Lane Users
Because Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is temporarily closed, it will also not appear as a Lightning Lane option on the My Disney Experience app during this period. So if you were hoping to book it for your EPCOT visit between now and November 13th, you won’t see it available for selection.
That said, once the ride reopens on November 14th, it’s expected to return to its regular Lightning Lane rotation. Historically, Remy’s has been one of the most in-demand attractions in EPCOT, so expect those return times to fill up quickly once it’s back online.
If you’re visiting EPCOT during this short downtime, it might be a great time to shift your focus to other popular rides like Frozen Ever After, Soarin’ Around the World, or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. These attractions tend to absorb the extra crowds when a major headliner is closed, so be sure to plan your day accordingly and keep an eye on the app for fluctuating wait times.
Why the Change Makes Sense
Switching from 3D to 2D might sound like a downgrade, but in reality, this kind of change often results in a cleaner, crisper visual experience. Without the 3D glasses, guests can enjoy the attraction without the occasional blur or glare that comes with 3D projection. It also simplifies maintenance and streamlines operations, meaning fewer things that can go wrong mid-ride.
And if the updates in Paris are any indication, we could see an even more detailed and immersive version of the attraction rolling out at EPCOT over time. Disney seems committed to enhancing the storytelling and visuals of this fan-favorite ride, even if the updates arrive in phases.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on its reopening next week to see exactly what’s changed and if any of those Paris updates sneak their way into EPCOT’s version too. Until then, for all Disney news and updates, make sure to follow us at Disney Food Blog.
