If you’re traveling to or from Disney World, you’re probably flying into and out of Orlando International Airport. You probably know about the iconic green carpet you see as soon as you get off the plane. You may even know that this airport is VERY busy, and can report some major delays if there’s a staffing shortage.
Now, it’s common for delays to occasionally happen, sometimes due to weather, or sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the Orlando International Airport is now confirming that flights have been delayed due to “staffing-related challenges.”
On October 30th, Orlando International Airport posted an operational update to social media stating that the airport is experiencing flight delays due to “staffing-related challenges” as a result of the current government shutdown. If you’re flying today, be sure to sign up for notifications from your airline and keep an eye on the airline’s app for updates.
According to WESH, those delays averaged around 161 minutes over the past few days. So far today, October 31st, Orlando International Airport has experienced only 32 flight delays and 18 cancelations. The FAA issued an air traffic control advisory on its website explaining that there’s a shortage of certified air traffic controllers, which is causing the delays.
This has affected flights across the U.S., so if you’re flying anywhere right now, you’ll want to ensure you’re updated on the current status of your flight. Air traffic controllers are struggling with unpaid work and staffing shortages, which will impact flights to and from airports.
