Early in September, Universal Orlando stated that construction will be coming soon to the Islands of Adventure theme park. Director of Public Relations Kristen Smith said in an emailed statement to the Orlando Business Journal that, “In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”
The Lost Continent is one of the islands at the theme park, and several attractions there have been closed down for a while. We also spotted a permit for the demolition of five acres within Islands of Adventure, approximately the size of the closed attractions in The Lost Continent. So what exactly will be getting demolished at Islands of Adventure, and what will remain? Well, we don’t know for sure yet, but we do have some ideas.
What’s Being Demolished?
As of now, Universal has not shared any official news about what is getting demolished at Islands of Adventure, but we do know that The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad, a stunt show, and Poseidon’s Fury have both been closed for a while now, since 2018 and 2023, respectively.
The area these two attractions occupy is roughly five acres. The permit that was filed was for 4.9 acres. You add those two together, along with Universal’s statement that The Lost Continent will see upcoming construction “as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments,” and it starts to seem like The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad and Poseidon’s Fury will be getting demolished soon to make way for new development.
But What About the Rest of The Lost Continent?
Mythos, the full-service restaurant, is currently in operation and is located right across the walkway from the former Poseidon’s Fury.
This restaurant’s theming is very bold and fitting of The Lost Continent; it would be difficult to simply re-theme it without some major construction. Demolition of Mythos might be on the horizon for Universal to bring in new attractions; however, Universal may wait until later to close this restaurant since it likely wouldn’t be within the five acres noted on the permit. Plus, it would likely benefit the company to keep a restaurant like this open.
The Lost Continent also has shops and two quick-service restaurants currently in operation. These are directly in front of the closed stunt show. It wouldn’t be surprising if we saw some of these, the ones closest to the stunt show’s building, close when the construction walls go up.
Of course, all of these theories are completely speculation and our own ideas that have NOT been confirmed by Universal. But we’ll be keeping an eye out for any news from the company and let you know ASAP!
