Flying to Disney World soon? We’re here to help!
Disney World vacations can rack up a pretty penny, especially when you factor in the cost of hotel stays, park tickets, souvenirs, and food. Getting to Disney World can also be a pain, as airfare certainly adds up. Picking the right flights is a tricky task and presents plenty of questions. When should you fly? How soon/late should you book? When are the best days to fly? You’ve got questions — we’ve got answers.
Ultimately, schedules may dictate when you visit Disney World. Maybe the kids aren’t in school, and you set aside a week to come out to Central Florida. Maybe this is your designated vacation week that works with your work schedule. The point is that — for many — sometimes life naturally dictates when you can fly out to Disney World. But if you can be flexible, you can actually take control back and get the best bang for your buck when it comes to airfare and expenses.
When it comes to saving money on flights, there are two flexible tactics you can use.
The first is to travel during the offseason.
Here’s the catch: There is no real offseason at Disney World anymore. The most popular theme park resort in the world is usually gonna be busy. But that doesn’t mean all days are the same. Seasons when kids are in school or right after the holidays can be calmer than the summer and the Thanksgiving/Christmas season. Of course, most people travel during the latter because they have the freedom to do so. But if you have flexibility, you’ll want to travel when most people can’t.
The next trick is to fly on specific days of the week. According to Google Flights, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays are usually the cheapest days to fly. Avoid flying on Sunday, as it’s the most expensive day to fly. By traveling midweek and departing Disney World on a Saturday or Monday, you can save a bunch of money not only with airfare, but with hotel lodging as well, as hotels will usually charge more for weekend arrivals.
Of course, with the holidays coming up, exceptions should be noted. Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas sort of negate the midweek rule. That’s when knowing when to book comes into play.
It’s also recommended to book domestic flights one to two months ahead of time, and international flights three to five months in advance — especially for holiday travel.
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!
If you want some extra savings, book itineraries with layovers! You can save around 22% on fares versus flying nonstop.
