Disney World guests aren’t maximizing the best ways of saving cash on airfare, and we’re putting an end to that!
There’s no sugarcoating it — Disney World vacations are EXPENSIVE. The cost of hotel stays, park tickets, souvenirs, and food all add up, and that’s before even factoring in airfare. Fortunately, Google Flights has suggested a travel hack to keep costs down and good times up.
Per a report from CNBC, Google Flights suggests the best way to save money is to be flexible.
In fact, the head of the product team at Google Flights, James Byers, has said that flexibility is the top piece of advice the company suggests for travelers looking to save some money. “Try not to lock yourself into a really specific date,” Byers said when asked about the topic.
So what exactly can be equated to being flexible? Byers and CNBC alluded to flying midweek, avoiding those busy (and expensive) weekend dates. They also added that flying outside of peak season — and in this case, Disney World’s peak season, such as months when kids are NOT in school or during the holidays — is a good way to save if you can swing it. It can even be as simple as rearranging your travel by a day or two.
According to Google Flights, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays are usually the cheapest days to fly. CNBC noted that Google Flights data shows that tickets are 13% cheaper on those days versus weekend flights. Studies show that you’ll want to avoid flying on Sunday — the most expensive day to fly. Shifting your travel so that you depart midweek and return on a Saturday or Monday is a good way to save money.
Additionally, checking into a hotel on midweek can yield lower rates.
The report noted that there are some caveats. Holidays like Thanksgiving can see rises in midweek prices, and if you’re locked into certain dates, you can’t just move around flight dates.
If you have time to plan, it’s important to know that airfare generally peaks in mid-summer and drops around early fall. Alas, for a lot of Disney World vacationers, they can only visit during peak times due to job limitations and school vacation schedules. DON’T WORRY — there are still other ways to save.
Google Flights indicated that booking itineraries with layovers — while annoying — can save travelers about 22% on fares on average when compared to flying nonstop.
It’s also recommended to book ahead and not wait until the last minute. Google Flights reports that the lowest prices for domestic flights are usually 39 days before departure, while 49 days before is the ideal booking window for international flights. Of course, those numbers can be skewed based on the destination.
Either way, it’s good to plan ahead and keep in the know when it comes to airfare updates and travel trends. That’s where we can help.
