Disney gives us announcements regularly, and some make bigger news than others. Don’t let these 4 announcements catch you by surprise on your next Disney World vacation!

Magic Kingdom
When it comes to planning a Disney World vacation, the big announcements usually steal the spotlight — new rides, festivals, or resort openings. But sometimes it’s the quieter changes that end up making the biggest difference in your trip. Disney has been rolling out a handful of under-the-radar changes that could impact the way you plan your next visit. Here are four announcements you might not have noticed, but definitely need to know about before your next trip.
1. Booking Your Disney Room
One of the less-talked-about changes coming in 2026 is Disney’s decision to simplify the room categories at its Moderate resorts. Instead of dozens of view-based names (garden view, water view, pool view, etc.), rooms will be grouped into just “Standard” or “Preferred” categories. The goal is to make check-in smoother and reduce confusion over which view or building you’re booking.

Port Orleans — French Quarter
That said, special rooms like the “Royal Guest Room” at Disney’s Port Orleans–Riverside will remain as a more premium option beyond the new standard categories. And while room features and floors/building requests will still be possible, they’ll be less formally categorized. For travelers, this means when you book in 2026, you’ll see fewer technical room view names and more intuitive options, though your ability to request a specific area remains, just without the old naming structure.

2. A Notable Change for Festival of the Holidays
Neil Patrick Harris has been a fan favorite narrator of EPCOT’s EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays Candlelight Processional for many years, drawing guests who book their trip around his performance dates. But in 2025, he won’t be on the lineup — he’s off on Broadway. That’s a big shift for people who specifically plan their holiday visits to hear him.

The 2025 narrator roster includes new and returning names like Jennifer Garner, Brie Larson, Henry Winkler, Marlee Matlin, Gary Sinise, and more. Candlelight Processional itself runs during EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays (November 28th to December 30th), and combines orchestral music, choir, and a celebrity narrator telling the Christmas story. For 2025, losing Harris’s name might shift some audience expectations and could open more demand for other narrators’ dates.

3. This Perk is Being Limited
Disney Resort hotel guests used to enjoy a perk where they could visit a water park on their check-in day for free. This year, the benefit has been available all year. But moving forward, that perk is being scaled back: it’s confirmed to return, but only during summer 2026 (not year-round).

Typhoon Lagoon
Here’s how it’ll work: when you arrive at your Disney resort, you’ll be able to head to one of the water parks, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, if it’s summer, your reservation is valid, and the parks are open. The change could be driven by the fact that off-season months often have park closures or reduced hours, so offering the perk year-round wasn’t always reliable for guests. For planners, this means if you arrive outside of summer in 2026, you shouldn’t count on that free splash day as part of your stay.

4. You Don’t Have to Wait Until 2027 for Something NEW at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
A new show is joining Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Zootopia: Better Zoogether! will debut on November 7, 2025, in the Tree of Life Theater on Discovery Island. It replaces It’s Tough to Be a Bug!, which closed in March 2025. While major changes are coming in 2027 with the opening of the Tropical Americas area, this will give us something new at this park to hold on to until then!

The show will be a 3D experience that celebrates Zoogether Day, with favorite characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde returning, and a new host character named Heidi Howler leading the show. Expect surprises, interactive elements, and a fresh visual style designed to bring the world of Zootopia to life in the heart of the park. For fans of Disney’s animal-themed storytelling, this is one of those announcements that reshapes the lineup and gives new incentive to revisit Animal Kingdom.
