Something is missing at EPCOT!

Spaceship Earth
We’ve been going to EPCOT a lot for the Food and Wine Festival, and we noticed something was missing during our tour around World Showcase. We’re here to share all the details with you!
One of our favorite places to go to in the World Showcase is the Morocco Pavilion. They have good food during the festivals, and the pavilion runs deep with a lounge for you to relax in.

Morocco Pavilion
We recently made our way to the lounge and noticed a big change that had happened there. The Restaurant Marrakesh sign is officially gone!

The Restaurant Marrakesh sign is gone!
Restaurant Marrakesh was one of Disney World’s most unique restaurants, making authentic Moroccan and Mediterranean food for guests visiting EPCOT’s gorgeous Morocco pavilion. The restaurant closed in March 2020, as the dining spot could no longer be maintained following the COVID-19 pandemic.

End of an era
Since March 2020, the restaurant has never reopened, and it looks like Disney World is beginning to phase it out. Interestingly, they still have the name painted on the side of the building. We’re thinking that it will be taken down fairly soon.

Who knows what’s in the plans for Disney and this building in the future? Right now, the inside of the restaurant is used for lounges, which change from time to time depending on the festivals. Sometimes the inside is used as an Annual Passholder lounge, and other times it is a lounge for all guests (like for Food and Wine).

I am so sorry that this restaurant closed. I visited Morocco many years ago and loved the food, Marrakesh was a great place to eat the cuisine. While a bit pricey, it was well worth the cost. I always made sure that when I visited WDW that was one place my family ate. I hope Marrakesh will be replaced with a restaurant equally as good.
We never got to eat there as the menu did not appeal to our son. His palate has since expanded so he’d probably love a kabob and couscous now. So sad that it is not open, even for dinner. We used to have lunch at Tangierine Cafe every trip, along with a coffee break from the pastry counter in the back. Wish they would at least reopen TC for lunch, not just the festivals. I miss their interesting plates and wonderful coffee.
Whenever we went to Disney, we always went to that restaurant. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. My grandson loved it there. He would get up and dance with the belly dancers. Will miss it!!!!
While we would LOVE to see this reopen as a restaruant, I just hope that they don’t tear down the building. It is so beautiful inside. Even if they ‘just’ keep using it as a lounge – they could alternate purposes/guest groups through the year, passholders, DVC, food and wine, flower and garden. I don’t even care if I don’t get to visit it while I’m there – just please, Disney, don’t tear down something else. Especially not something as pretty as this building.
We ate there in 2019 when we had the Deluxe Dining Plan. Holy cow that was a lot of food and good too. We would have gone there again but covid happened and this place didn’t survive. Sad.
What a wasted use for such a beautiful building. There really is no reason they couldn’t return to a Moroccan restaurant again. The entire Moroccan pavilion is one of the most beautiful in EPCOT but with no restaurant and no attraction, most people will pass it by.
