If you’re traveling to Disney World and you’re planning to drive or rent a car at the airport, you’ll need to know about parking at Disney World hotels, as well as the theme parks.
For example, you’ll need to know that you can’t drive directly to Magic Kingdom — instead, you have to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and take the Monorail to Magic Kingdom. However, there are two unspoken parking rules that we see people breaking ALL the time, so we wanted to give you a heads up to make parking at Disney World a little easier and more convenient.
If you’re driving to the parks, there are a few things you should be aware of as you enter the parks. When you get to the park entrance, you can and SHOULD drive to the shortest line at the parking toll booths. You may think you’re supposed to go to the one on the driver’s side, but you don’t have to do that.
Basically, if a light at a parking toll booth is green, that booth is available. We see people (allllll the time) immediately pull into the longest lines because they think that’s where they’re supposed to go. But look around and check those booths with a green light with shorter lines, and you’ll get into the parks a lot faster.
Okay, now let’s talk about parking. Once you’re through the booths, you’ll notice that all four parks have two lanes you can choose to drive through. Okay, so we see so many people getting in the lane with the most cars, because, again, they think that’s where they’re supposed to go. So you end up with a backed-up line of cars trying to park.
Well, here’s what you should do: get in that second lane (the one with the shorter line of cars). There will be a Cast Member alternating lanes at the end because guess what? BOTH lanes will be parking at the same time, so if you’re in the lane with the shorter line, you could park faster than you would otherwise. That might not ALWAYS be the case, but it will still help traffic flow for everyone if you don’t just get in the lane with the most cars.
So you’ll want to keep those things in mind if you’re driving in Disney World? However, if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you can take advantage of Disney’s FREE transportation to get to and from the parks, too.
