In case you missed it, Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom is getting a new paint job! The pink is fading away, and blues, grays, and gold accents are making a comeback, with fans showing almost nothing but praise for the original colors returning.
The colors changed shortly before Disney World’s 50th anniversary, and while the 50th medallion was taken down after the celebration, the colors remained the same, with pinks that some people said reminded them of the Sleeping Beauty castle at Disneyland. Now that the colors are changing, what are the benefits?
One of our team members’ parents, who has a professional background in projection mapping, shared a little secret with us: the best color to project designs on is gray, so the projections should pop a lot more than the pink did.
What is projection mapping? When you’re watching Happily Ever After, the fireworks show in Magic Kingdom, we always recommend trying to get a spot where you can see the front of the castle instead of just looking up at the actual fireworks. Disney projects tons of designs onto the walls of the castle, which help bring different storylines to life.
There are iconic moments like the balloons from Up flying up the castle, and when the floating lanterns from Tangled cover the sides. It truly takes a normal fireworks show to the next level, and we see this for the fireworks shows for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, too. You might even see some elements being used during the stage shows if they’re at night.
With the original color scheme coming back, the projection should be even clearer and easier to see since it’s shown on a more basic color, versus the pink. Even though they look incredible now, we are pretty thrilled to see the differences when the colors come back.
Now, if only we could convince Disney to bring back the Christmas lights on the castle!
We’ll be ready to show you all the differences once the walls are painted, but in the meantime, make sure to follow the Disney Food Blog for more Disney news.
