Today is a HUGE day for The Walt Disney Company.
The company released its Q3 earnings report this morning, which told us a LOT about how the company is doing financially. We’ve already had four big announcements from the report, including details about how the theme parks are faring financially, but Disney also dropped some big news for sports fans…and you’re going to want to hear it.
ESPN DTC
First up, ESPN’s Direct-to-consumer service and enhanced app will be launching on August 21st. The new app, “a sports fan’s dream,” will bring ALL of ESPN’s networks and services to one app with new personalized features and functions. Called ESPN DTC, the service will offer two plans:
- An unlimited plan for $29.99 per month that includes access to all of ESPN’s linear networks: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes – in addition to ESPN on ABC, ESPN+, ESPN3, SECN+, and ACCNX, covering 47,000 live events each year, on-demand replays, studio shows, original programming, and more.
- ESPN DTC bundled with Disney+ and Hulu, including a special offer at launch for $29.99 per month for the first 12 months. ESPN content will be available to watch within the Disney+ app for those who choose the bundle.
The new app will introduce new features, including multiview options, integrated game stats, betting information, fantasy sports and commerce, as well as personalization options.
WWE
Disney also announced that WWE Premium Live Events are headed to ESPN platforms in the U.S. beginning in 2026. The ESPN DTC service will stream all WWE Premium Live Events annually with select simulcasting on ESPN linear platforms. This includes both WrestleMania and SummerSlam, which are both two-night events. Other events that will be streaming include Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, Money In the Bank, and more. ESPN will also have the opportunity to stream WWE’s pre- and post- show event shows.
Nick Khan, President, WWE said, “WWE’s agreement with ESPN is a pivotal moment for our millions of fans across the United States: the leader in sports entertainment partnering with the biggest brand in sports media. Bringing WWE’s flagship events to ESPN’s platform is tremendously exciting. We know the sky is the limit.”
NFL Deal
ESPN has also reached a deal with the National Football League (NFL) to acquire NFL Network, along with other assets, in exchange for the NFL getting a 10% equity stake in the network. According to Reuters, analysts and industry insiders believe the stake could be worth $2-$3 billion.
ESPN has said that this would add to their offerings on ESPN DTC, but this deal is not final…it still has to face regulatory approval.
