One by one, Magic Kingdom is dropping rides. Some closures are permanent (lookin’ at you, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat) while others are just temporary, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
On August 4th, another Magic Kingdom ride closed for an extended refurbishment — Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. And, now that this ride has closed, there are even fewer Lightning Lane Multi Pass options at this park! I’m a Disney World expert, and even my head is spinning with all of these changes, so here’s what you need to know.
Heads up if you’re heading to Magic Kingdom — you now have one fewer Lightning Lane Multi Pass option to choose from! With the temporary (but extended) closure of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, there are fewer choices for this skip-the-line pass at this park.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is an optional paid service available through the My Disney Experience app, which allows you to bypass standby lines and enter the Lightning Lane (previously known as the FastPass line) at select attractions in the parks by paying a base price for multiple attractions.
At Magic Kingdom, the current Lightning Lane Multi Pass options are listed below. Guests may choose ONE attraction from the following*:
- Jungle Cruise
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Space Mountain
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Guests may choose TWO attractions (or all 3) from the following:
- The Barnstormer
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- Haunted Mansion
- “it’s a small world”
- Mad Tea Party
- The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Mickey’s PhilharMagic
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Tomorrowland Speedway
- Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is typically available as a Tier 2 attraction; however, this refurbishment will last into 2026.
And, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is typically available as a Tier 1 attraction; however, Big Thunder Mountain closed on January 6th, 2025, for a refurbishment that will last into 2026.
As part of the new changes at Space Ranger Spin, an all-new character — a friendly robot named “Buddy” — will make sure you’re prepared for your mission. This will also be a great time for you to see some of the new, interactive target features before blasting off.
In addition, the ride vehicles are getting a facelift with a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each vehicle will also come equipped with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features.
Oh, and did we mention the HANDHELD BLASTERS? Yep, no more trying to wrench that static blaster into the perfect position — you’ll be able to aim and shoot easily. The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors so you can tell who is aiming at what!
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates about this closure and the latest news from Disney World. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss anything!
