Okay, so a LOT is happening in Magic Kingdom right now. Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island have permanently closed as Disney begins construction on a Cars-themed expansion in Frontierland. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is getting a huge upgrade. A new villains land is set to go behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
A Tomorrowland ride is also set for a huge upgrade. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closes tomorrow, August 4th, so we decided to visit the ride this morning to see what its last day is like…and let’s just say, it was kinda surprising.
We visited Magic Kingdom this morning and headed over to Tomorrowland to see what was happening on the last day of operation at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Well, we didn’t really see much going on.
The line for the ride was pretty much steady at around 20 to 25 minutes. In fact, we’re not sure folks are aware this ride is closing tomorrow!
However, a little later, the ride wait time did jump up to 45 minutes, so maybe word got out, or everyone just slept in this morning. In general, this is a pretty long wait time for this ride.
While the ride is closed, Disney is adding a new show scene and making some gameplay enhancements to the ride. A new character is joining the ride, a robot named “Buddy,” who will make sure you’re prepared for your mission. The ride vehicles are also getting upgraded with a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each vehicle will also have video monitors with real-time scoring updates and other features. The new vehicles will also have new handheld blasters.
The new updates are expected to come to the ride in 2026, so this closure could be a lengthy one. We’ll keep an eye out for updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Gosh darnit! I planned on going this November, It’s one of my go to rides
One of my favorite rides at Magic Kingdom. Wish it would not be closed for a long time. Do they have a time frame for the closure?
I love Disney.
