Ozzy Osbourne, godfather of heavy metal and iconic frontman of Black Sabbath, passed away on July 22nd, 2025, at age 76, Newsweek has reported.
The musician died just weeks after an emotional farewell concert featuring Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, where Osbourne performed from a throne onstage.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” a statement from his family read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and had chronic health issues following a fall in 2019.
He rose to fame with Black Sabbath, known for hits like “Iron Man,” “War Pigs,” and “Paranoid.” Later in life, he found success as a solo artist and became a reality TV icon on MTV’s The Osbournes, which centered around his life with his family.
His legacy includes two Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions — for both Black Sabbath and as an individual artist — along with five Grammy wins and worldwide fandom.
It might come as a surprise that Osbourne had a few Disney connections — he voiced Fawn in Gnomeo & Juliet, and played the manager for the band Helment in The Jerky Boys: The Movie. He also guest-starred in Fish Hooks and voiced the Duke of Drear in The 7D alongside his daughter, Kelly.
His songs have also been featured in Disney films. Most notably, “Iron Man” is played in the first Iron Man film, and “Crazy Train” was featured in the teaser trailer for Inside Out 2.
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon and five children from two marriages. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Early yesterday evening, my son and I were watching Ozzy on the 40th anniversary showing of Live Aid. Then I popped out for a couple of hours. When I walked back in the door the first thing that my son had to tell me was that Ozzy had died earlier in the day. How do these coincidences happen?
