Disney World is big, like really big. We go to the parks every day, and every day Disney World just feels bigger and bigger, especially when you’re in the middle of EPCOT’s World Showcase or looking for the way out of Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios.
Believe it or not, there’s a ride bigger than ALL of Magic Kingdom. Yep, a single attraction is bigger than the six lands and castle, and you might only see a fraction of the space when you ride it. Place your final bets in three, two, one…
Over in Animal Kingdom, you might have been on Kilimanjaro Safaris, and this attraction is over 110 acres. Magic Kingdom is only 107 acres!
This might not seem like a lot to you, but remember that’s only a single attraction that is bigger than the 33 attractions in the Magic Kingdom.
Kilimanjaro Safaris features “vivid open plains, shady forest landscapes, and rocky wetlands” that comprise the 110-acre Harambe Wildlife Reserve.
You might be thinking, “I’ve never seen 110 acres when on the safari.” There are numerous backstage areas where the animals are cared for, as well as areas for them to retreat to when they don’t want to be in the spotlight.
The areas where you see the animals are also a forced perspective, so while it looks like the lions are super close, they are kept further away with camouflaged spaces between that the big animals don’t cross.
Some animals will come right up to your vehicle or even in front, where you’ll have to wait till the animals move for you to continue on your ride. You might also see a lot of different animals each time you go on a ride, and that’s because there are tons of spaces for the animals to wander around on. They might choose to pass by your truck, and they might decide to hang out in the shade, all up to them!
Did you know that you can actually walk parts of Kilimanjaro Safaris? The Wild Africa Trek is a three-hour tour that offers a private guide to help you spot the animals. You can cross over a bridge and get unique views of the animals you might not have seen before. For those unable to cross the bridge, there’s an option to stay in the vehicle and still get a private tour around the safari grounds.
We love going on the safari and spotting different animals! Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney tips and tricks.
