A NEW Night at the Museum movie is in the works! According to Deadline, 21 Laps has begun a reimagining of Night at the Museum for 20th Century Studios. The Night at the Museum franchise was incredibly successful, and it appears that movie producers want to see if that remains the case.
The third and most recent live-action Night at the Museum movie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, was released in December 2014. There has also been an animated Night at the Museum film called Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again, which was released in December 2022.
The movie franchise focuses on a night watchman at a natural history museum. Everything seems normal, until the exhibits come to life after dark. The first three movies all focused on the same night watchman, Larry Daley, who was played by Ben Stiller. The animated movie is about Nick Daley, who is following in his father’s footsteps as the night watchman. The movies in the series include Night at the Museum, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again.
While the specifics of the new movie in this franchise haven’t been released, it has been stated that the film will tell a new story set at the museum, featuring all-new characters. This new movie will be written by Tripper Clancy, who has worked on films and shows such as the Die Hart franchise, I am Not Okay With This, and Bolivar. Shawn Levy (who directed the first three Night at the Museum movies and produced the animated film) and Dan Levine will produce the movie for 21 Laps, with Emily Morris overseeing the project for the company.
21 Laps hasn’t released expected dates for this new Night at the Museum movie, but the movie is still in the early stages of production. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more about this new film!
