We’ve been jet-setting across the globe to bring you a look at Disney’s Aulani Resort lately, but right now, we’re heading OFF of Disney property to check out another Hawai’ian institution…
…the DOLE Pineapple Plantation! Technically, this isn’t where DOLE Whip was invented, but we certainly wouldn’t have the iconic sweet treat if not for this place. And, speaking of DOLE Whip, this is definitely where you want to visit if you’re after the BIGGEST one we’ve ever seen in our years and years of them.
The DOLE Plantation in Wahiawa, Oahu, is a must-visit spot for any DOLE Whip or pineapple fan — and anyone who wants to learn more about one of Hawai’i’s main agricultural industries. We couldn’t resist making a stop on our recent trip to Hawai’i and thought we’d take you along on a little tour. There were pineapples as far as we could see in some directions!
The pineapples are harvested using multiple methods, but mainly using large harvesters like the Model A one pictured below. There’s a Plantation Garden Guided Tour, which we definitely recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about the Hawai’ian pineapple industry.
You can also get lost in a Pineapple Garden Maze — which happens to be the largest pineapple maze in the world. And, if you download the DOLE Plantation app, there are even fun games and activities you can do while you’re trying to avoid getting lost!
We took a trip on the Pineapple Express…
…no, not that kind. The Pineapple Express is a train that takes you around part of the plantation, but it’s an additional cost. At $15 per person, we don’t really think it’s worth the time or money.
Of course, we couldn’t pass up a trip to the DOLE Plantation without getting a DOLE Whip — and y’all, in all our years of professional DOLE Whip eating, we’ve NEVER seen one quite this big! The best part about this one was that there was FRESH pineapple at the bottom picked right from the farm — which is something we think Disney should definitely take notes on.
We’ve got PLENTY more Hawai’i content where that came from, so make sure you check back for more! We’re talking reviews, tours, and everything you need to know.
In the meantime, stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss any Disney news!
