Welcome to the Most Magical Place on Earth! If you play your cards right, it can truly feel as magical as you want it to.
Before you pack your bag full of Mickey ears, take this advice before you even head to sunny Orlando, Florida. You’ve planned your tickets, booked your flights, selected your first ten attractions, and know where you’ll be eating breakfast, but if you don’t take this massive Disney World problem into consideration, all of your planning won’t matter. Don’t worry, though, you’re here at Disney Food Blog reading this post, so you’ll be prepared for the best vacation ever.
This is not what you want to hear during your vacation, but the trick to an incredible Disney World trip is (drumroll please!)…taking breaks!
There are many reasons why you’ll want to take breaks, but if you’re constantly going, you’ll likely encounter issues. The primary reason you will want to take a break is due to the weather.
Florida is hot, and if you’ve never visited during the summer, you might not be able to handle the heat. That’s okay! Even as locals, you’ll constantly find us taking breaks around the parks because it’s really the only way to function during those hot months. We love to find a place indoors to relax in the air conditioning while we wait for the hottest time of day to pass.
During those breaks, you may also want to focus on battling the weather. Apply your sunscreen regularly because getting burnt on the first day of your vacation is a great way to make some not-so-Facebook-worthy photos. Make sure you’re drinking water as well. Many quick-service restaurants offer free cups of ice water, which we’ll use to cool down and refill our water bottles.
Want a productive way to take a break? Consider checking out a table service restaurant. These usually require reservations or checking for availability at the host stand, but it’s an easy way to spend an hour in the air conditioning with a great meal. Sitting in a comfy booth, savoring an ice-cold Coca-Cola Classic, and enjoying a filling lunch is our perfect afternoon at Disney World.
Another reason you might want to take a break is that Disney World is exhausting. While the little ones might struggle keeping up with the go, go, go schedule, the adults get just as tired of trying to figure out the next Lightning Lane, waiting in queues, and holding everyone’s souvenirs. The whole family will appreciate a long meal or even a stop back at the resort to catch a quick nap.
We know what you’re thinking, “But Disney World is expensive and we need to take advantage of every minute to get everything we want done and to make it worth the cost!” That doesn’t mean you should skip out on breaks.
It’s almost impossible to successfully go through a week-long vacation, going to the parks from 9 AM to 9 PM (not including transportation time in the morning and evening), running from attraction to attraction, and eating on the go so you can get to your next favorite ride. Even if you can do that, you might find yourself getting moody, and Disney World might be feeling a little less magical.
Taking a break can help you last a whole day in the parks, especially for the smallest members of the family. Likely, you won’t make it to Happily Ever After if you’ve been running around since 7 AM without a few meltdowns (from kids and adults). And again, even if you are, can you really do that the whole week?
Don’t underestimate the power of a 30 to 60-minute break during your park day. We know it’s tempting to keep going, but a break can make your trip so much better.
