To say we’re excited about Disney World’s NEW Nighttime Parade is an understatement!
A lighted parade on Main Street, U.S.A. is just…well (forgive the major cliche here) MAGICAL. We’ve gotten a few looks at the concept art for the parade, costumes for the characters, and some merch that will be released — and today, we are getting to see some actual floats in action!
Disney Imagineering just released a new episode of its YouTube show — “We Call It Imagineering” — and we’re getting some new looks at the parade!
The parade’s show director describes the parade as a “constellation of Disney Dreams.” The parade will start with the blue fairy and then head to the rooftops of London. Then we know there will be floats featuring characters from Encanto, Frozen, and Coco! Next up will be Moana, and then the finale train float, and (get this!) there is a NEW character created for this parade — WHIMSY!
Whimsy is made of Starlight — and he rides in on the train float. We know he can dance, and that he was based on vintage Disney animation (think Silly Symphonies!). That train will pull cars with so many favorite Disney characters…from princesses to the Fab 5. Disney just revealed the first view of it!
Disney promises that Disney Starlight will be “funny, sweet, and thrilling.” This NEW sneak peek shows the lighting design and some new technology being used and wow, it really seems to live up to the “starlight” name!
We’re also hearing more of the music from the parade, and the details involved in the sound design for the show. GPS zones are set up to insure you hear the right music at the exact time you’re seeing the float. There’s also SO MUCH tech in the costume designs — Disney has made a custom “galaxy print” for the costumes, and each light on the costumes is individually placed to make the performers look “kissed by starlight.”
Jiminy Cricket — another Disney character made of starlight — will end the parade (in a “wink back” to a classic Disney nighttime parade — Spectro-Magic). Disney says the lighted costumes in the parade are also synced to the music!
