The Disneyland Resort has a limited number of character dining experiences, but that doesn’t mean each one will be right for you and your family.
The Resort currently offers only four different locations where you can find character dining experiences. Each location has its own set of pros and cons that are worth considering before booking a reservation. We’ll be going over those details so you’re fully informed before your next Disneyland vacation!
Before we get into it, one thing should be known: There aren’t any bad character dining options. Disneyland has usually prided itself on quality over quantity, and that rings true for these restaurants. Still, some may work better for you than others. It’s also worth noting that character dining experiences can be much more interactive than dining anywhere else at Disneyland. If talking to characters is a daunting prospect, this may not be the type of dining for you. However, if you’re game, these tips will help you choose a restaurant!
Minnie & Friends Breakfast at the Plaza Inn
Plaza Inn on Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A. is known for its Victorian charm, and has been serving guests since Disneyland’s opening day in 1955 (when it was called Red Wagon Inn). It’s also home to the famous Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park!
We find the atmosphere here at this all-you-care-to eat breakfast that offers classics like Mickey waffles, cold cereals, fresh fruit, scrambed eggs, breakfast meats, omlets, and more!
Storytellers Cafe, in Disneyland Resort’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, is a buffet-style restaurant that celebrates the art of storytelling through large paintings and murals, silhouettes, and stained glass design elements throughout the space. Home to Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet, Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Brunch Buffet, and Donald’s Tales of Adventure Dinner Buffet, this restaurant is dedicated to character dining.
Dinner has some elevated buffet finds like baby back spareribs, slowroasted prime rib with creamy horseradish, fried chicken, creamed corn, s’mores bread pudding, and more!
This spot has a welcoming, warm atmosphere with great service. Overall, it offers really strong quality. However, it is a bit pricey than some other options and is outside of the parks, so keep that in mind. Still, if you’re looking to balance price, character experience variety, and strong food quality, this might be the spot for you!
Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures at Trillium Room
Currently offered in the Trillium Room at the Grand Californian while Napa Rose undergoes its refurbishment, Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures is considered the highest quality character dining experience at the Disneyland Resort
The menu here features breakfast entrees as well as savory luncheon items in addition to special desserts. You’ll find items like coconut cookies & cream chia parfait, Chef Louie’s Mini Lobster Roll, Tiana’s Famous Beignets, Princess Jasmine’s Banana Wrap, and Pocahontas Ah-maize-ing Cornbread.
There’s also the classics like Mickey Waffles, house-made mac & cheese, and scrambled eggs. Keep an eye out for the maple turkey sausage with caramelized pears and figs, breakfast deviled eggs, braised short ribs with balsamic cipollini onions, truffle mac & cheese, and roasted rainbow carrots in a parsnip and celery root puree.
Finish your meal off with desserts like Ariel’s Dingle Hopper Vanilla Cake Pops, Pocahontas Colors of the Wind Sorbet, Princess Aurora Chocolate Cream Puffs, and Tiana’s Pistachio Macarons.
The experience here is more hands-on, as “kids can let their imaginations soar during one-of-a-kind Princess-themed activities. Upon arrival, Disney Princesses are waiting to greet you and share in your hopes and dreams prior to taking a photo on a beautiful private patio. You may take part in storytime with Belle or learn some fierce warrior poses with Mulan.”
The food is also served as a 3-course meal and is generally considered elite when compared to the quality at the other buffets.
The rub? This experience is for breakfast only, and you’re looking at $142 PER PERSON before tax and gratuity. It ain’t cheap.
Goofy’s Kitchen
Goofy’s Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel is a lively and lets you enjoy an upbeat character buffet meal where you can meet characters like Pluto, Chip ‘n Dale, Minnie, and Goofy!
In the $60 range for adults and $35 for kids, Goofy’s Kitchen is a more affordable all-you-care-to-enjoy option with the added perk of being able to meet characters.
This restaurant offers character experiences for breakfast/brunch AND dinner, and you’ll find fun options like a meat carving station, create-your-own-omlet station, and a dessert buffet in addition to a plethora of other items.
This spot is very fast-paced and ideal for young kids, so if you’re looking for something quieter, this ain’t it. And while the food is good, it’s not as recommended as some of the other options.
Still, this spot has something for everyone and is a great option for families with big appetites!

We (or at least I) will probably only get to Disneyland once. So I’ll be trying it all, the good, bad, overpriced… lol – but I appreciate all the inside scoop. At least we know what to expect, and when to be pleasantly surprised!
