Hollywood Studios just got a little cooler—and we mean that literally and figuratively.
Cool Kid Summer has officially landed across all four Disney World parks, and there’s a lot happening. From special entertainment and roaming characters to snacks and dancing, the energy is big this year. We took a walk through Hollywood Studios to check it all out, and let’s just say, Disney didn’t hold back. Here’s what you need to know if you’re heading that way this summer.
Animation Courtyard Is THE Place To Be Right Now
If you’ve passed by Animation Courtyard thinking it’s just a spot for photos or a Disney Junior pit stop, think again. This summer, the area has been completely re-energized with the Cool Kid Summer offerings. There’s now live entertainment, pop-up performances, and tons of character interactions happening all day long. It’s loud. It’s colorful. It’s very much alive.
We’re talking jugglers, magicians, and even some impressive jump rope performers showing off for the crowds. And characters? They’re everywhere. Donald and Goofy? Check. Chip and Dale? Also check. Clarabelle Cow? Yes, and she’s actually sitting with families, coloring at tables like she’s part of the group.
It doesn’t feel like a traditional meet-and-greet. It feels like you stumbled into a street festival—Disney-style.
Meet-and-Greets Feel More Personal (and Random, In a Fun Way)
One thing we really loved about the character setup is that not all the interactions are staged. You’ve still got a few traditional lines if you want a posed photo, but a lot of the characters are roaming.
That means kids (and let’s be honest, adults too) can have more spontaneous, low-pressure moments. Clarabelle might plop down next to you while you’re coloring. Donald might sneak up behind you while you’re watching a juggler.
It feels more playful and way more engaging than the usual structured meet-and-greets. And if your kid is shy about waiting in a big line for Mickey, this style might actually get them excited to interact without the pressure.
Say Goodbye (for Now) to the Disney Junior Dance Party
In case you were hoping to catch the usual Disney Junior Dance Party, there’s been a bit of a switch-up. That space has now been rebranded for the summer as Get Animated—a new, more immersive dance experience that feels like Disney’s version of a music festival for kids. And we’re kind of into it.
The party runs all day, so you can drop in whenever, stay as long as your toddler’s energy lasts, and duck out without feeling like you’re missing a “show.” There’s a live DJ, bubbles everywhere, and characters like Fancy Nancy and Timon actually on the dance floor getting down with guests.
It’s more than just watching performers from a distance—it’s full participation mode, and most of the kids there were all in.
Cool Vibes, Even Cooler Snacks
All that dancing, coloring, and courtyard fun will wear you out fast—so Disney made sure there’s a place to refuel nearby. Get Refreshed is a brand new snack stand set up right in the heart of the action, and it’s giving healthier summer vibes. Think granola bars, fresh fruit, and drinks from Once Upon a Farm.
It’s a welcome change from the usual heavy theme park snacks. These are grab-and-go options that won’t make you feel like you need a nap afterward. If you’ve got picky eaters or kids who crash fast in the heat, it’s worth swinging by here instead of hunting for a snack cart with churros and popcorn again.
Is It Worth Your Time? Yes, But…
If you’ve got little ones, Animation Courtyard should absolutely be on your park plan this summer. Even if you don’t, it’s worth walking through just to soak up the energy and maybe spot a character or two you haven’t seen before. But here’s the thing—this area gets crowded fast. It’s not a huge space, and with everything happening at once, it can feel a little packed.
Our advice? Swing by earlier in the day before the crowds settle in, or hit it later in the afternoon when the dance party is still going but some families have already called it quits. The roaming characters and pop-up entertainment seem to happen pretty much all day, so you won’t miss out either way.
Final Thoughts
Cool Kid Summer is a solid win for Hollywood Studios. It brings a much-needed breath of life to a part of the park that usually flies under the radar. Whether you’re traveling with kids or just want to see something a little different, this is one of the easiest, most laid-back ways to add a little extra fun to your day. No ride reservation, no Lightning Lane, no pressure.

We stopped by this area shortly after the new activities started. It is indeed a fun area now – it was kind of depressing in recent years. The character interactions are much more spontaneous than the usual meet-and greets, even if a little more chaotic. But – here is the best part – there are popup moments involving folks like jugglers who interact with the crowd, and these people are clever. It smacks heavily of the streetmosphere of blessed memory. It’s the kind of thing that DHS has been missing for too long. Thank goodness it seems to be coming back.
