If you thought getting a boarding group for a new ride was stressful, just wait until you try to score a souvenir pin these days.
Disney World has always been a place for collectors, but lately, things have reached a whole new level. Limited-release merchandise drops are nothing new, but this current wave of collectible restaurant pins? It’s officially chaos. We’re talking lines forming before the sun’s even up, sell-outs within minutes, and guests walking away empty-handed — and frustrated. Here’s everything going on with the latest must-have merch, and why this trend is spiraling fast.
The Restaurant Pin Craze
Right now, Disney’s dropping a series of limited-release pins themed to different Disney World restaurants. Sounds harmless enough, right? But these aren’t just any pins. They’re the pins to get. Each one is part of a set, they’re only available for a short time, and supply? Yeah, that’s limited too.
That combination means the lines to get them are no joke. Guests have been lining up outside of the pin shops opening just for a shot at getting one. We’ve seen people skipping breakfast and even early ride times just to queue up. It’s giving Black Friday energy, but make it Disney.
They’re Selling Out Fast
The worst part? Even if you get in line early, there’s still no guarantee you’ll get one. We’ve seen pins sell out before 10AM, and Cast Members have had to turn guests away more than once. So you could wait in line for an hour (or more), only to leave with nothing.
To make things more frustrating, there’s not a ton of transparency about how many pins are available each day. Disney releases them without much warning, and there’s no reservation system or mobile ordering to streamline it. It’s all old-school: show up early, wait, and hope for the best.
Are They Worth It?
Look, we love a good collectible. Disney pins are fun, they’re detailed, and they hold a lot of nostalgia for longtime fans. But when a souvenir starts disrupting your entire park day? That’s when we start asking if it’s really worth it.
We’ve talked to guests who said they skipped their top rides, skipped meals, and even missed out on Lightning Lane windows just to snag a pin.
So What Can You Do?
If you’re hoping to collect these restaurant pins, here’s our honest advice:
- Be prepared to wait. Like, really wait.
- Go early, ideally before the shops open.
- Bring patience, because the line gets long quickly.
- Have a backup plan in case they’re sold out by the time you get there.
Also, keep in mind that Cast Members do their best to manage the crowds, but they can’t control how many pins are available. And unless Disney changes how these releases are handled, this kind of souvenir scramble might be the new normal.
We’re not saying Disney should stop releasing limited-edition pins—but maybe it’s time for a better system. Virtual queues, mobile purchasing, or even just more transparency about drop times could go a long way. Until then, this trend is only going to get more intense, especially as more fans hear about the restaurant pin series.
