One of our most beloved eats at EPCOT is GONE!
If you were to stop and ask us where the BEST Disney World entree that doubles as a snack could be found in the entire park, we’d likely come back with a response that included the Pepperoni Pizza Roll from Sunshine Seasons. However, Disney World’s been on a mission lately to really shake things up with its menus, and it seems that this latest change has claimed a snack casualty that we won’t soon get over.
We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but it’s more fitting that you hear it from us than find out on your own. We recently noticed a MAJOR menu change at one of our staple EPCOT restaurants, and our hearts were instantly shattered. Sunshine Seasons has been a restaurant of respite and a place to pick up one of our tried and true eats in all of Disney World, but it’s recently come off the menu. We ventured over to Sunshine Seasons to find out what had happened to our beloved Pepperoni Pizza Roll, only to find it’s been replaced with a different version of Pepperoni cheesiness.

Sunshine Seasons
As we made our way up to the counter to place what would have been our usual order of a pizza roll, our gaze towards the menu was met with the new item glaring right at us. In its place, you’ll now find the Pepperoni Flatbread for $12.29. This updated version of a take on pepperoni pizza served as a flatbread comes precut into slices, and is served with your choice of a bag of chips or a side salad.

Menu board
Well, since this is a completely different look to our beloved snack, we figured we needed to at least give it a fighting chance, so we picked up an order. When browsing the menu, we noticed the kids’ meal offering had also changed, and we were told by the chefs working behind the counter that the kids’ meal version of the flatbread is half of what the adult portion is.

Pepperoni Flatbread and bag of chips
At first glance, it’s a fairly hefty portion for the price, so we can’t take too much issue with getting a good value out of the change. Taking a closer look at it, this pizza is covered in creamy mozzarella cheese and a handful of greasy pepperoni just waiting to be devoured. The flatbread itself didn’t look too thick, and in our heads, we were prepared for it to taste just like other Disney World flatbreads we’ve had at other restaurants (looking at you, Pinocchio Village Haus).

Pepperoni Flatbread
Before we get too ahead of ourselves, this time we opted for a bag of Lay’s Potato Chips, which did their job as a light, crunchy option to accompany the pizza. While the bag is snack size, it’s enough to have a feel of salty chips to go with a bigger entree, and we weren’t disappointed with our choice.

Chips
So, we mustered our courage and decided to pull a piece up to take a bite. And honestly…it wasn’t all that bad. Granted, it’s not the same cheesy, pepperoni-filled pizza roll we’ve come to know and love from this restaurant, but overall, this pizza wasn’t all that bad. The flatbread wasn’t overly greasy, and the dough tasted like it was relatively fresh.

Slice of flatbread
Overall, the pizza’s layer of melted mozzarella cheese, peppered with slices of thinly cut pepperoni on top of the saucy flatbread, made for an overall familiar bite to eat. Was it earth-shatteringly good? NOPE. But, in fairness, we weren’t entirely expecting it to be, but we’ve had worse-tasting Disney World flatbreads elsewhere. While our hearts grieve for such an iconic loss, it’s safe to say that you’ll still get a solid option in choosing this new version of pepperoni pizza (despite our cries for the roll to return to the menu).

How about a story about a signature snack for each park, the back story, and how it has evolved for the future guest enjoyment. A Casey’s Hot Dog on Main Street was a staple for our family on every visit, a great bowl of Chili’ at Twin Forks (Walt loved Chili, too bad this was version was not great).
