Hold onto your Mickey ears because we’re about to talk about every Disney Adult’s dream: expanding Disney World!
In a meeting with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, plans were brought up for the next 20 or so years of Disney World, and while nothing is confirmed, words like “new minor theme park” and “new major theme park” are being mentioned in documents. What does this really mean? Let’s take a look!
The meeting documents discuss the two new minor theme parks for 2035 and a new major one for 2045. Although these are many years away, knowing that Disney is considering potential plans is a significant step in the right direction.
It says, “Although [Maximum Development 2025-2045] allows for development of one major and two minor theme parks, there are no plans under review. Approximately 850 acres would be required for these uses.” It later goes on to say the “overall amount of undeveloped land used for hotels and resorts during the next ten years is projected to be not more than 923 acres.”
That means there is enough space to add the new major theme park. Even if there are no current plans, Disney is ensuring that land is available for future development.
By 2045, Disney is projecting that almost 140,000 guests will stay overnight at resorts, and visitors to the parks, including two new minor and one major theme park, will exceed 270,000.
Right now, they’re saying the new major theme park would have an average population of over 50,000, which would make it larger than Hollywood Studios but a bit smaller than EPCOT, in 2045:
- Magic Kingdom – 76,942
- EPCOT – 55,409
- New Major Theme Park – 50,776
- Hollywood Studios – 38,683
- Animal Kingdom – 32,072
The minor theme parks are around 3,500 and 1,700, which are both smaller than the water parks. This makes us think it might be new lands or areas, mini golf courses, small water parks, or any other small areas around Disney World.
By 2045, there are also talks about 13,000 additional hotel rooms and 18 more holes of golf.
Again, Disney has not come out and said that a fifth park is coming, but areas are being zoned and classified for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
If you could have a fifth park at Disney World, what would you want it to be? Tell us your blue sky ideas in the comments and keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news.

I’ve always thought that Magic Kingdom should be dedicated to legacy Disney IP with a new park built for post 2K IP pwith a lot of Pixar IP.
Well, I’ll be 86 years old in 2045, assuming I make it to that age. The new park might just be the final item checked off on my bucket list! LOL!
I would recommend a park with mainly rides….like Disney Adventures in California.
Hello,
My husband and I love listening to your YouTube videos and we love reading your newsletter updates!
Our Blue Sky idea for the 5th park: Avengers Campus or Marvel Headquarters park.
We realize there’s the agreement with Universal Studios. But they could make a big long list of all of the Marvel characters, cross off the ones that Universal could use, and there you go.
Also, maybe add Wakanda & Black Panther stuff for visiting their land. Awesome scenery in those movies.
Thanks for making fun content! We love your reports on all things Disney & Universal!
Thanks!
It would be nice to experience it but I won’t be alive to see it.
I hope they don’t go for a single IP as that has potential to age fast. For me I would go for one of the following:
1. Disney Elements – split into Earth, Fire, water & Ice all connected by a core. In each land you could include so many concepts such as Hoth land and Frozen sitting in Ice land
2. Disney Sports – bring sports into a park with so many themed Disney sports moments Robin Hood archery, Cars, pod racing and maybe have some IPs come in to sponsor certain attractions. Maybe have a coaster like the new Monsters Inc door ride where you mimic the movement of a ball (tennis, football, basketball, golf with a nice Disney character overlay
3. Disney Retro – inclusion of Disney past including a land that is black and white and maybe have an elephant graveyard for attractions that have been removed (Great Movie Ride, Malestrom etc)
Yes I have spent way too much time thinking about this 😉
Blue sky for new theme park: Narnia. Middle Earth/LOTR, Both with scrumptious world-building, restaurants, immersion in the stories, outdoor adventures as a part – hikes, horses. Virtual reality battles?
Call it Lands of Legend, include as many as possible of the world’s great literary mythologies as areas. Greek/Roman, Norse mythology, Isis/Osiris, Mwindo, The White Snake, Rama’s Quest, etc. etc. What stories have humans created to inspire each other?
If Disney World was planning a new theme park I would like it to be a nostalgia land. They could bring back some well loved attractions from the past. I’d love you see the ride called If you had wings. Bring back Toms island and the steam boat. Bring in attractions that are a bit updated but still give the younger generations a sampling of the old days. There are a lot of things fro history that could be recreated from Daniel Boone to Mary popping eras. Why erase the past?
Another theme park? Outlaw princesses!!!
My two cents – they will negotiate the ability to develop their Marvel IP on the East Coast and have a full Avengers park. Possibly something Avatar Way of Water focused. I would say a Pixar world, but that is already dispersed through the parks.
Whatever they are, gives me new incentive to eat well and exercise and be in good health to see them come to life!
I know there is contracts with universal, but I would build a whole park dedicated to marvel. Or I would do an adventure park like in Paris with zootopia frozen and tangled etc.
There have always been plans for a fifth park (and probably evem more). The question s and has always been when? Now that Universal’s Epic Universe has opened, it may speed up the process.
Before even considering a new park, they need to start taking care of the ones they already have. Too many things are falling apart.
