Okay, so you already know we love food, but you might also know that we are BIG breakfast people. In fact, we wish breakfast was served at more Disney World restaurants ALL DAY long…but we’ll still get up early to grab a proper Disney breakfast (did someone say Mickey waffles?).
So when we found out that there were some NEW breakfast items over at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, we made a beeline over there to check it out. Join us as we head over to Rix Sports Bar and Grill to stuff our faces with the most important meal of the day.
You may already know that the last time we had breakfast at Rix Sports Bar & Grill, we were extremely impressed with their Chicken Stuffed Waffles, which are Mickey Waffles stuffed with chicken (how could you not be impressed?!). Well, we got some brand-new breakfast items this time around, including the Southern Fried Chicken Biscuit Skillet. For $19, you get crispy chicken, a cheddar biscuit, and sausage gravy. Y’all. That was some good chicken. It wasn’t dry or greasy…it was perfectly fried: crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The savory gravy was the perfect topping for it.
So you get two pieces of chicken and four biscuits. However, the biscuits were a little dry, although the gravy helped a little with that. We could’ve just been satisfied with just the chicken and the gravy, though.
We also ordered the Floridian French Toast for $18. It’s “Sobao” bread filled with mascarpone, fig, orange jam, and topped with seasonal berries with lavender glaze. You also get your choice of breakfast meat as a side. Excuse us, but we’re going to need a moment to close our eyes and truly savor this thing. The toast is so soft and fluffy (like a CLOUD), and it’s sweet enough on its own that you don’t even need syrup. It comes served with powdered sugar, too, so there’s that.
It almost tastes like a cinnamon bun, thanks to that mascarpone filling. The fresh fruit adds a nice balance to the sweetness. We also appreciated that there was a lot of fruit. So, how good was this French toast? Well, we’d travel all the way to Coronado Springs to get it again. This could be the best French toast in Disney World.
Okay, back to biscuit things… the Hot Honey Cheddar Biscuits are a new side that you can grab for $6. For that price, you get two biscuits. The honey gives the biscuits a nice sweet flavor, and the biscuits themselves are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Then, of course, there’s that savory element with the biscuit and the cheese, and it all just works really well.
We also ordered up some drinks, including the Churro Iced Latte for $9. It’s served in a jar with a TON of whipped cream on top, sprinkled with cocoa…plus you get a churro. We’re giving it an A+ for presentation because it just looks like so much fun. It’s basically just an iced vanilla latte, but the churro treat and all that whipped cream takes it up a notch. It’s not anything super unique, save for the presentation, but it’s fun, and sometimes that’s what you need for breakfast.
What’s breakfast without a mimosa? Enter the new Sunrise Mimosa, made with Lunazul Reposado, Orange Juice, Grenadine, and Sparkling Champagne for $12.25. This drink even LOOKS like a sunrise. BUT…we didn’t like the flavors. It’s strong and sour, and we think we wanted something a little sweeter than what we got. Even after a quick stir, it still tasted…well, it packed a punch. It’s a little too much for breakfast, y’all.
Then we had to try the Coco-Loco Espresso Martini (yep, this is yet ANOTHER spot you can get an espresso martini in Disney World). This one is made with Don Q Coconut Rum and Licor 43 shaken with rich espresso and a splash of sweet cream for $17. This is a GREAT breakfast drink. It’s not super strong, and it sort of tastes like a spiked cold hot cocoa.
Now, the only problem with having breakfast at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is deciding what to order. We suggest bringing friends and ordering a bunch of things to share.
