It’s hard to walk through the Grand Californian lobby without being lured over by the smell of something sweet.
Right off the main hall, the Great Hall Cart has been dishing out cute seasonal treats, and we stopped by to check out a couple of the latest offerings. We tried the Pluto Whoopie Pie and the Daisy Loaf Cake, and wow—let’s just say one of them surprised us in a big way. If you’re planning to make a dessert detour during your Disneyland day, here’s what you need to know before grabbing either of these treats.
We recently made a trip to the Grand Hall Cart in the Grand Californian in Disneyland to try out two treats on the menu: the Pluto Whoopie Pie for $10 and the Daisy Cake for $14.
Pluto Whoopie Pie ($10)
Let’s start with the one that looked like it had the most potential. The Pluto Whoopie Pie is brightly colored, very themed, and hard to miss in the display case. You’ve got green frosting sandwiched between two soft yellow-ish cake rounds, topped with a chocolate Pluto medallion that ties the look together. That being said, looks can be deceiving.
The flavor here was just… off. The cake part was soft, which we appreciate, but the taste leaned hard into “artificial.” The coloring was intense, and it didn’t just stay on the cake—it got everywhere. Fingers, lips, napkins—good luck walking away from this one without looking like you had an accident with a highlighter.
The green frosting had a very processed sweetness to it, and the whole thing tasted more like dye than dessert. We wanted to like it, but we just couldn’t get past the weird aftertaste and messy presentation. It’s a cute photo, but not a treat we’d go out of our way to grab again.
Daisy Loaf Cake ($14)
Now this is where things turned around. After the Pluto Whoopie Pie, we were cautiously optimistic about the Daisy Cake, and we’re happy to report it was the standout of the two. This one is a blueberry lemon cake that’s as pretty as it is delicious. It’s got a soft, moist texture with real blueberries baked right in, and the flavor balance is spot on.
The lemon isn’t overpowering—it hits right at the end with just enough sweetness to make you want another bite. Honestly, this is the kind of dessert you hope to find at Disneyland. It’s fresh, light (for cake), and has a unique flavor that makes it feel worth the detour. We’d take this over a basic churro any day.
It’s also not a huge portion, which actually worked in its favor. It’s rich enough to satisfy without making you feel too weighed down to enjoy the rest of your day.
What Else is on the Menu?
The Great Hall Cart isn’t just dishing out Pluto and Daisy. There’s actually a pretty full menu of treats, drinks, and even some fancy novelties.
Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll find:
Sweet Treats:
- Goofy Crisped Rice Treat ($9)
- 70th Celebration Sugar Cookie ($10)
- Mickey-shaped S’mores Cookie Kit ($10)
- Pluto Whoopie Pie ($10)
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Cup with Milk ($10)
- Daisy Loaf Cake ($14)
- Wildflower Honey Jar ($14)
- Pretzel Rod Sticks ($16)
- Clarabelle Macarons ($25)
Alcoholic Beverages:
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot with your choice of liqueur ($18)
- Options include Baileys, Kahlúa, Amaretto, Jameson, RumChata, and more.
Signature Selections:
- Cookie Shot with Clase Azul Ultra Añejo or Louis XIII Cognac (Inquire for pricing)
Novelty Items:
- Disneyland 70th Celebration Light-Up Mickey Balloon Bucket ($28) — comes with a sugar cookie
- Disneyland 70th Celebration Mickey Mouse Bucket ($52) — also comes with a sugar cookie
- (Note: Both novelty buckets have a two-per-person limit and are not discountable.)
So yeah, there’s a lot packed into this little cart. It’s easy to walk past it without realizing just how many options are on deck, especially since it’s tucked inside the Grand Californian rather than in the parks. But if you’re in the area or planning a break from the hustle of the park, it’s worth checking out—just maybe skip the Pluto treat.
Final Thoughts
Here’s the quick and dirty summary: the Great Hall Cart is worth a stop, but choose wisely. The Pluto Whoopie Pie might look fun, but the taste is forgettable at best and off-putting at worst. On the flip side, the Daisy Cake is a standout—light, flavorful, and totally worth the walk over from the parks. If you’re looking for a sweet break from your day at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure, head to the Grand Californian lobby, grab that cake, and thank us later.
