Dear Star Wars fans, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is pretty devastating.
One of our favorite Star Wars actors has no plans to return to the franchise.
Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, does not plan on returning to the franchise.
In an interview with ComicBook, Hamill said, “I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars the most expensive low-budget movie ever made. We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”
Hamill kicked off the original series and starred in Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, which became one of the most iconic films to be released. There are now 12 films and plenty of TV shows all set within the Star Wars galaxy.
We remember sitting in the theater in 2019 and seeing Luke Skywalker on the big screen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Seeing Mark Hamill return for new fans was incredible and while we’re bummed he won’t be making any more appearances, he left a lasting legacy within the franchise.
The next Star Wars movie to hit the screens will be The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22nd, 2026. Grogu (well, he’ll always be Baby Yoda to us) will be featured alongside Pedro Pascal.

Rogue One is my Fav Movie of all StarWars
I don’t blame him, especially since his character basically died.
How come Grogu is on Luke Skywalker’s back in your featured photo rather than Yoda?
Hi Louise. Grogu is seen on Luke Skywalker’s back in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, specifically in “Chapter 16: The Rescue”. This is where Din Djarin (Din Djarin, Grogu’s adoptive father) and Luke Skywalker arrive at Moff Gideon’s light cruiser to rescue Grogu, and Luke carries him on his back for a short time before Grogu is transferred to Luke’s temple for training.
Thanks DFB Gigi! Looks like I need to watch the series all over again before the film comes out!
