According to Deadline, the Walt Disney Company began major layoffs on June 2nd, 2025. The layoffs will impact several hundred employees globally. Many of the employees impacted are in divisions of Disney Entertainment, including marketing, television publicity, casting, development, and corporate financial operations.
No teams are being eliminated, but several hundred employees are being laid off from The Walt Disney Company. This is the fourth round of layoffs in the past 10 months that have impacted Disney’s television operations. It is also the biggest round of layoffs in those 10 months.
The layoffs are part of Disney’s ongoing cost-cutting process. Even though Disney reported better-than-expected earnings for the second quarter, several hundred employees will be laid off in this round. The layoffs will be from multiple divisions within Disney Entertainment. It was reported that most Disney Entertainment Television staffers who are being laid off are based in Los Angeles.
These layoffs follow several rounds of layoffs already. Back in March 2025, Disney laid off about 200 employees at Disney’s ABC News Group and Disney’s Entertainment Networks Unit. As well, in September 2024, Disney laid off 200 employees who were part of Disney’s corporate operations. In 2023, Disney had numerous rounds of layoffs and eliminated about 7,000 jobs.
Our hearts are with all the employees impacted by these layoffs and their families. We will continue to bring you updates as we learn more. Stay tuned to DFB for all your Disney news.
