If any of you have ever renovated your bathroom, it’s likely you know what that can cost.
However, can you imagine spending MILLIONS of dollars to renovate and install hundreds of bathroom stalls? We couldn’t either, until we found out that the Orlando International Airport (MCO) has just begun its $72 million bathroom project that is expected to last until 2027.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, this is part of the airport’s multi-billion dollar renovation of Terminals A and B. In this first segment, Balfour Beatty Construction will renovate the four airsides (the areas of the airport beyond security) in these terminals for $71.9 million.
There are currently 61 bathrooms that will all be renovated AND the airport will add 12 more. This work will include upgrading companion restrooms as well as service dog relief areas, and this project is expected to be completed in 2027. However, the multi-billion dollar projects on Terminals A and B as a whole are expected to all be completed between 2027 and 2028.
A large part of this renovation is due to the amount of passengers Orlando sees every year — in 2024, Orlando was the most visited destination in the world with 75.3 million visitors. With that amount of traffic, Orlando Airport officials felt the current bathrooms in these terminals did not fit the needs this volume of passengers and visitors require.

MCO definitely needs more restroom spaces. Every time we have been there over the past few years there are lines coming out of both the women’s and men’s restrooms.
Oh Golly! I thought they might have gold handicap bars in the bathroom. Honestly Handicap bathrooms should be available in the front and not the end, not only that, but many people that are not handicap take advantage of the handicap/family bathrooms. I am unable to use the regular stall, I need the handicap railing to help me.
