If you’re an impulse shopper, then you need to AVOID EPCOT.
With a variety of different gift shops spread throughout the pavilions and several themed stores in the World Showcase, there are quite literally hundreds of souvenirs to discover in this park. And if you’re not careful, you might find yourself regretting your purchases!
Starting out at House of Good Fortune in the China Pavilion, we’ve got to mention the dog kimonos that were sold here several years ago. Yes, they were seriously adorable and we all wanted to buy them for our pets…but for what purpose?! When would your dog actually wear this? This was definitely one of those impulse buys for people that landed in the box of forgotten souvenirs.
Over in the Japan Pavilion, Mitsukoshi Department Store is home to a wide variety of bizarre and quirky souvenirs, but the one we definitely didn’t need? Character onesies. But they’re not Disney characters — they’re themed to various Japanese characters like Pokemon. These are those types of souvenirs that are so silly that you almost want to buy them just to say you did. But when would you wear this? Seriously, it looks like it would roast you alive while you’re sleeping. Trust us — save that apparel budget for a Disney tee instead.
Inside Mission Space Cargo Bay, you’ll find a mix of Star Wars and NASA-themed merchandise, including freeze-dried astronaut food. This is definitely one of those items that catch the attention of kids, and you might find yourself giving in to buy it. But we suggest you skip the freeze-dried ice cream in EPCOT — this IS the park known for its delicious snacks, after all. Instead, just order some astronaut eats from Amazon after your trip.
Both in Creations Shop and Treasures of Xandar, you can find the iconic Marvel infinity gauntlets. These are super cool souvenirs, and you can even collect all the infinity stones to go in them, but there’s a big problem — they’re HUGE. These things are seriously bulky, and they get quite cumbersome to carry around or to try and fit in your suitcase to go home. Nobody wants to wear a plastic glove all day in a theme park.
In various places around EPCOT, we’ve spotted this Spaceship Earth cookie jar. If you’re a die-hard EPCOT fan, this is sincerely tempting to take home. But like the gauntlet, it’s a pretty bulky souvenir that can be difficult to lug around or fit in your suitcase. And even when you get home, how often will you actually have it filled with cookies? Be honest.
One thing that EPCOT has in spades? Figment merchandise. He gets his own festival collections AND his own gift shop. It can be super tempting to buy a bunch of Figment paraphernalia, but the problem is — it only works in EPCOT. That’s the only park the character has a presence in, and out in the real world, people who aren’t Disney fans have no idea who he is. If that doesn’t bother you at all though, go ahead!
And last but not least, you’re probably going to regret dropping a cool $79K on that crystal model of Spaceship Earth. You can find this unique souvenir inside Kunstarbeit in Kristal in the Germany Pavilion. It may seem like a fun idea at the time, but when you buy a souvenir that costs more than most cars, your bank account is probably going to scream at you.
Want to know what you SHOULD buy during your EPCOT trip? We love fun snacks from the World Showcase Pavilions, items themed to your favorite characters, or classics like Disney tees and Minnie ears. All of those items are available throughout the park.
And if you can’t decide if you really want to buy something — walk away. If you still want it later, you can return. And if it’s still there, it’s meant to be!

So I’ve got to say that it’s people like my 16 year old daughter that will but the character onesies, yes, including Pokémon. She’s worn them for Halloween, pajama day at school and also comicon! I’m actually amazed how many places she finds to wear them. Lol
Why is Figment merchandise any different from any other cartoon character merchandise? I have a Figment t-shirt that I just love and wear all the time. Probably as often as my Goofy, Lumiere and Pink Panther T-shirts. I’ll never regret buying it!
I actually did buy the cookie jar on my last visit, after we inquired about shipping. We only had to pay $10 to have it shipped home. It did arrive broken but we went through the return/replace process and that one made it just fine. It’s featured in our Disney-themed family room on some shelves next to a charging station and holds all our unused charging cords. Don’t regret that purchase one bit!
You can NEVER buy too much Figment merchandise, ever. 😂. Heck, I even have a Figment tattoo.
Why are you bagging on poor Figment? Next you will call Orange Bird pointless!!!
And real Disney fan know Figment, maybe you aren’t a *real* Disney fan.
Yeah you might want to retract that Figment opinion. I have a Figment tattoo on my ankle and a Figment badge reel from work. No one gets it right when asking what it is but I don’t care! And shouldn’t the reason to not buy that Marvel gauntlet the $100 price tag? Ridiculous!
You say the crystal Spaceship Earth costs more than more a car. It’s actually double the cost of my first house!
