Let me save you from the same mistakes that ate up way too much of my park time.
Disney World is magical, but that magic can wear off real quick when you’re standing in an hour-long line for a B-tier ride or wandering a resort at midnight trying to find your room. Trust me — I’ve done Disney more times than I can count, and I still find myself learning lessons the hard way. So here are four things I will absolutely never do again in Disney World, and I’m hoping they’ll help you skip a few regrets too.
Stand In a Pointless Line
At Disney, it’s so easy to see a crowd and just… follow. You assume that’s where you’re supposed to be. But sometimes, following the herd just means you’re wasting your time in a line you didn’t need to be in.
Take park entrances, for example. Each park has multiple touchpoints to scan in — not just the ones dead center. But guess what? That’s where everyone flocks. Most people stop at the first entrance they see, creating a massive traffic jam right in the middle. Meanwhile, the lines on the far left or right? Practically empty. Just don’t go too far to the sides — those are reserved for Annual Passholders.
And don’t get me started on ride lines. Even the B-tier rides can get outrageously long during peak hours and dates. I once saw Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom hit a 50+ minute wait at noon. That’s wild for that ride. So instead of waiting it out, my group grabbed lunch, explored the trails for a bit, and boom — came back to a 25-minute wait. Perfect timing.
Our pro tip is to download the My Disney Experience app and start tracking those average wait times ahead of your trip. It’ll help you spot what’s actually worth waiting for — and what’s just experiencing a momentary surge because, again, the crowd saw a line and assumed it meant “worth it.”
And if you’re waiting in line for Starbucks at rope drop? I mean this in the kindest way: stop. Just stop. That line moves slower than Spaceship Earth during a breakdown. There are other spots in the parks that serve coffee, and many of them offer Mobile Order. You might not get your iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso, but you will get caffeine, and you won’t waste half your morning getting it.
Bring One Pair of Shoes
If you only pack one pair of shoes for a Disney trip, you’re setting yourself up for foot pain, blisters, and possibly dropping $70 on a pair of Crocs in a gift shop because you’re desperate. We’ve all done it. You bring that one pair of sneakers you think will carry you through the whole trip — they’re broken in, they’ve never let you down before, and then… they betray you. Maybe it rains. Maybe they rub in a weird spot you never noticed before. Maybe your sock slips down and your ankle starts staging a protest by mile five.
Whatever the reason, you need options. I always recommend at least two reliable pairs: one sneaker and one sandal. The sneakers are great for long park days, and the sandals (like Tevas or Chacos) are clutch on rainy days when you don’t want to soak your socks and walk around squishing for hours. Because trust me, you don’t want to end your day limping back to your hotel room, only to realize you have no backup plan for your poor, destroyed feet.
Miss Out on Exclusive Snacks
I love a Mickey pretzel. A Dole Whip? Classic. But Disney snacks are SO much more than the regulars — and if you’re not paying attention, you might completely miss some of the best bites in the parks.
Limited-time snacks drop all the time, and sometimes they’re only available for a few days or weeks. It could be a festival-exclusive cupcake, a special churro flavor, or something wild like a pickled corn dog (yes, that was a real thing).
You didn’t spend thousands of dollars to eat the same popcorn you can find in any theme park. Try something new. Try something weird. And try it before it disappears.
Get Off the Bus at the First Stop
End-of-the-night Disney exhaustion hits HARD. You’re sweaty, sore, and all you want is to collapse into bed. So when your resort bus finally pulls up and makes its first stop, it’s super tempting to hop off and start walking, thinking, “Eh, I’ll just cut through the resort. How far can it be?” Let me tell you, it can be FAR.
I’ve made this mistake more than once, especially at resorts with internal bus loops like Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. The layout is deceiving. You think you’re close… until you’ve been wandering for 30 minutes trying to find your building in the dark, dodging sprinklers and silently regretting all your life choices.
Here’s the move: take a picture of your bus stop and building number in the morning. That way, you’re not guessing at 10 PM. And unless you know for sure that the first stop is close to your room? Just stay on the bus. I know you’re tired. I know the bus is crowded. But nothing is worse than misjudging that walk and adding another mile to your day.
So there you have it — four things I’ll never do again in Disney World. Learn from my missteps, save yourself the trouble, and spend your time soaking in the magic (instead of standing in lines or limping around in wet sneakers).
