WHAT is happening with the crowds at Disney World right now?? That might be a question you’re asking yourself these days, especially if you’re trying to plan for an upcoming trip. Well, we’ve got some interesting updates to share.
On May 7th, 2025, Disney held its earnings call and released its earnings report for the 2nd quarter of fiscal year 2025. We got some updates about Disney+, ESPN, and the theme parks — including some interesting tidbits about what we might expect when it comes to crowds at Disney parks this year. So, let’s dive into what YOU need to know.
What We Already Know
First, let’s take a very quick look at what Disney has already said about crowds this year. During the earnings call for the 4th quarter of fiscal year 2024, Disney shared that bookings in the back half of 2025 were looking positive — which could be a clue as to when the most crowds are expected to hit the parks.
Then, during the earnings call for Q1 of fiscal year 2025, Disney shared that bookings were “up” for the summer of 2025 and that the Company was “feeling positive” and the “outlook is good.”
Disney also noted that they anticipate “some small impact for Epic Universe opening“ and have hedged their guidance appropriately.
So…what has Disney said now?
The Latest Updates
During the Q2 earnings call, Disney shared that operating results at their domestic parks and experiences increased compared to the prior-year quarter, primarily due to growth said parks domestic parks and resorts and, “to a lesser extent, Disney Vacation Club and Disney Cruise Line.” As Disney Cruise Line ramps up, they’ve seen more theme park attendance before and after those trips, as well as an increase in Disney Vacation Club unit sales. However, Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort reported lower attendance levels and increased costs.
When looking at the data specifically, the Walt Disney Company saw a 6% increase in revenue this quarter in comparison to the same quarter from last year (from $8,393 million to $8,889 million) — domestic revenue saw a 9% increase, while international revenue saw a 5% decrease. As for their operating income, Disney saw an overall 9% increase (from $2,286 million to $2,491 million) with a 13% increase domestically and a 23% decrease internationally.
Epic Universe is set to open on May 22nd, so we’ll be watching for the impacts that may have on crowds and more at Disney World. Plus, several changes are set to hit the Disney theme parks this year — like the addition of a new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom, the reopening of Test Track after its major retheming, and much more.
