MAJOR UPDATE On the New Storyliving by Disney Community in North Carolina

Many people dream of living in a Disney World park someday, and with Disney’s Storyliving Communities on the rise, that could become somewhat of a reality!

The last we heard of the Disney Storyliving Community planned for North Carolina, called Asteria, it seemed that the company may have hit a snag in its building plans. However, now, just a few months later, there’s a new update that things are moving along once again!

Asteria is the second Storyliving by Disney Community currently in the works — the first is Cotino, located in California.

Back in January 2024, it was reported that a local non-profit, The Haw River Assembly, was hoping that Disney and DMB Development would take environmental impacts into consideration when building the plans for the Asteria community. This included keeping the existing tree canopy, building larger stormwater basins than the current code requires, and working to protect Pittsboro residents (and future Asteria residents) from water pollution.

Now, WRAL News out of North Carolina has reported that developers of the Disney development in Chatham County have spent $23.3 million on the first piece of land for the residential community. This first piece spans 217 acres of the currently planned 1500 acre project.

This is the first step in a nine step process to purchase the entire 1500 acres, and “DMB/SWVP Raleigh, an LLC tied to Scottsdale, Arizona-based real estate developer DMB Development, and Stanley Living at CP, an LLC tied to Disney, submitted preliminary plans of the layout to the town of Pittsboro.” These plans should become available to the public in May.

This new community is planned to include 4,000 single-family and multi-family homes with home sales beginning by 2027. We’ll be keeping up with the latest news to see when those plans are released publicly so we can take a look, as well as when the next purchase may be made.
