It’s natural to be a little bit nervous before going on a cruise for the first time. Fortunately, we’re here to help give you insight into some of your concerns.
With the recent launch of the Disney Treasure cruise ship, along with the up-and-coming christenings of the Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny, we guess you could say the Disney Cruise Line has been a hot topic for MANY lately — especially those planning upcoming vacations. Of course, before your trip you might have questions, such as whether or not you might get seasick. We’re giving you the skinny and letting you know if you should consider vacationing elsewhere.
Seasickness might be a big concern of yours — and we get that. It’s one thing to avoid a spinny ride at a theme park because of motion sickness concerns, but when you’re stuck on a boat for DAYS at a time…there’s really no getting around that.
For the most part, a Disney Cruise isn’t going to involve any crazy swashbuckling or anything akin to The Poseidon Adventure. This is meant to be a relaxing vacation, after all. With that said, you will feel the waves underneath you — especially if it’s getting a little stormy out.
We like to suggest preparing for potential cruise motion sickness ahead of time, much like you’d prepare to ride a roller coaster or screen ride.
A few months back, one of our readers wrote us an email to help us REFINE this motion sickness tip to make it more cruise-appropriate.
According to the reader, one of the big “newbie” mistakes that a Disney Cruise Line passenger can make is taking Dramamine or putting on a motion sickness patch just as your ship starts to embark.
These medicines can take hours to adjust to your inner ear, as well as the unpredictable movements that trigger motion sickness. So if you take them RIGHT when your ship starts moving (or right when the queasiness starts to set in) it’s going to be too late.
You’re better off taking these seasickness medicines the night before you board (or — to be on the safe side — even starting TWO nights before you board), just so your body can get adjusted to the effects.
