Just days after it was confirmed that the Disney Junior Dance Party at California Adventure was ending, ANOTHER Disneyland Resort live entertainment offering is set to close permanently.
The Avengers Assemble stunt show at California Adventure’s Avengers campus is set to have its final performance on April 5th, signaling the end of one of the land’s opening day attractions just as Disney begins work on a massive expansion.
The show, which features various Marvel heroes including Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Thor, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, The Wasp, and Captain America battling villains across the rooftop of the Avengers’ headquarters at the center of the land.
The show has been a stalwart of the Campus, with new characters often swapping in and out as new Marvel projects premiere. There was even a holiday version that featured Hawkeye battling the Tracksuit Mafia while wielding candy canes and Christmas presents.
Disney did not confirm why the show is ending, nor did they clarify future entertainment plans for the land. Some have speculated it’s due to the construction of the massive Avengers Infinity Defense E-Ticket and Robert Downey Jr.-starring Stark Flight Lab attractions, while others contend that the show’s price — the show’s stunt performers earn $40.48 per hour, among the highest paid performers at Disney California Adventure according to the American Guild of Variety Artists Performers — played a role.
The closure of Avengers Assemble marks the loss of yet another live entertainment element from Avengers Campus, which has also lost the Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts the live stunt performers from The Amazing Spider-Man stuntronic show, and the Story Time with Deadpool show in recent months.
The land will still feature performances of the Warriors of Wakanda: The Disciplines of the Dora Milaje” and Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off shows, the “stuntronic” and meet & greet portions of the aforementioned Spider-Man show, and meet and greets with a rotating cast of Marvel Cinematic Universe characters.
Not even the Avengers were mighty enough to ward off the trend of live entertainment being shuttered at the Disneyland Resort. Stay tuned to DFB for further coverage of the “Happiest Place on Earth.”
