Whether you’re traveling to Disney World or somewhere else, the traveling part can be fun (as they say: “It’s not the destination, but the journey,” right?). However, traveling can sometimes be the exact OPPOSITE of fun.
That’s especially true of flying. Sometimes things just happen, bad weather pops up, or other incidents occur that can cause flights to get delayed and even canceled. Well, that’s certainly happening today, with over 400 flights currently delayed at Orlando International Airport, with over 50 canceled flights.
According to FlightAware, a total of 414 flights are currently delayed at Orlando International Airport (yikes, that’s a lot), while 53 flights are canceled. Of the airlines affected, it seems Southwest Airlines has the most delays, at 128. Nationally, most of the delays seem to be coming from Orlando International Airport, too.
So what’s going on? According to ClickOrlando.com, stormy weather is to blame. Thunderstorms in Central Florida have impacted southbound flights crossing the “Flow Constrained Area” (an imaginary line drawn around an area of bad weather, or in this, case thunderstorms). As a result, those impacts are expected to last until almost 7 PM ET.
The FAA estimates that the delays will average over three hours. Orlando International Airport reported delays for arriving flights from locations like Cleveland, Boston, and Philadelphia. The current weather forecast for Central Florida includes storms and windy weather, with wind advisories in affect for Orange County until 4 PM.
If you’re flying to Orlando today, you’ll need to have your patience ready because delays could happen. It’s also a good idea to have your airline’s app on your phone and notifications turned on so you can keep up with any changes that might happen to your flight. You should also sign up for text notifications from your airline if that’s available.
