It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago when streaming services were still relatively new and about the only one worth subscribing to was Netflix (and we have to give Netflix some credit because they really started the whole streaming thing, as well as offering original content on streaming).
Well, now, you have a TON of choices for streaming, including Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Peacock, and so many more. However, for many of us, Netflix remains a top choice due to its sheer volume of content. Netflix continues to grow in subscribers each and every year, and as it grows in popularity, so does its price. Well, CNN has just confirmed that Netflix is raising its prices again.
Netflix is raising its monthly cost for subscribers who choose the ad-free version of the site from $15.49 to $17.99. The standard account with ads is going up from $6.99 to $7.99. The highest-paid tier of service, which includes 4K video, will go up from $22.99 to $24.99. Netflix previously raised prices on select plans in October 2023.
Netflix had a huge jump in subscribers which is now at 302 million people globally, partially due to the live boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which became the most-streamed sporting event of all time. Netflix also hosted two Christmas Day NFL games, making them the most-streamed football games of all time. The recent release of the second season of the highly popular Squid Game was also Netflix’s biggest premiere to date.
The company has reported that its revenue increased 16% since its last quarter and it earned $10 billion for the first time in history. It’s no big secret that in the streaming service, Netflix still reigns supreme.
In a letter to investors, Netflix explained its reasoning for the price increases: “As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix.”
