If you’re heading to Disney World in February, be prepared for some closures. Over the course of the month, 6 major attractions across the resort’s theme parks will be down for scheduled refurbishment, as well as one of its water parks.
Most of these refurbishments began on January 6th, as Disney World officially exited the Holiday Season and entered into the comparatively slower winter season with eyes on spring and summer.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
The Magic Kingdom’s iconic and still uber-popular runway train-themed roller coaster went down on January 6th, and will remain so for AT LEAST the rest of 2025. According to Disney, the ride will reopen “with a little bit of new magic” in 2026.
Astro Orbiter
The spinner ride, descended from the Rocket Jets, which sits high atop Tomorrowland and provides breathtaking views for riders. Or at least it does when it’s operational. The attraction closed for a refurbishment on January 13th, and is expected to be closed until the summer of 2025.
Hall of Presidents
As has been the case since the attraction first opened with the Magic Kingdom in 1971, the Hall of Presidents will be closed for refurbishment following the inauguration of a new U.S. President. The show will close beginning on Inauguration Day, January 20th, and is scheduled to “later in 2025” according to Disney.
Test Track
Moving over to EPCOT, one of the park’s core E-Ticket attractions Test Track remains closed for refurbishment into a third incarnation. The ride closed on June 17th, 2024 and is scheduled to reopen in 2025.
Gran Fiesta Tour
Over in World Showcase, the Mexico Pavilion’s boat ride Gran Fiesta Tour closed for a quick refurbishment on January 6th, and is currently scheduled to reopen on March 15th.
Kali River Rapids
Finally, Animal Kingdom’s river rapids water ride is currently closed for its usual seasonal maintenance. (Believe it or not, Florida’s winter does indeed get cold enough in the winter that getting soaked on a water ride is not ideal). The ride closed on January 6th, and is scheduled to reopen in March.
In addition to these attractions, as the Typhoon Lagoon water park is closed for seasonal maintenance as part of Disney’s cycle of having one water park open and one closed.
Guests going to Disney World in February, even during the busy President’s Day break, should be prepared for some major rides to be closed during their trip. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the resort’s calendar.
